actually if I HAD to get one of these styles it would have to be a wig, since I am not one for maintenance (ie no fancy cuts and colours for me)
when I am 100 I am doing like my grandma

For the possible exception of Kardashian and Fonda, those are wigs. Just a random observation.
But again, I will state that you are very fortunate if you look hot past your 30's/40's in long hair. Imagine Jane Fonda trynna pull off Barbarella hair today...come on now.
Rebelling against one's age might be a valid choice but it is not automatically an attractive one.
Just Raquel's is a wig...but that's not the point. I see old women with hair like this all the time....shit...I should show you some of the hairstyles that my high school friends have now.
Once again, I do not see it as rebellion against age...I see it as just still being me...and being comfortable.
Rinna's is suspect.
It might just be my years of wig-wearing but still...
Once again I will say that you are fortunate to be able to pull it off. I also consider the women presented here to be older than you.
The reality (of my not so humble opinion) remains that most women (and men for that matter) past a certain age can't quite pull off big long sexy hair. There is nothing wrong with that. |

No, I don't think women should cut their long hair when they get to a certain age. If they want to, it's up to them.
I'm under the impression that quite a big percentage of the women that still have long hair in their 40s and 50s tend to be quite wealthy (or, more stereotypically, are married to a wealthy man). The artsy women are the other end of it. That might chance in the coming decades when the current generations get older.

I think the curtains and the carpet should be "styled" in whatever manner makes a woman comfortable. If she's comfortable with her appearance she's much more likely to feel happy and/or sexy. It bugs me that so much pressure is put on them to do otherwise (by "fashion" publications and tv shows, advertising, friends, family, significant others, etc). I don't believe that men deal with nearly as much stress in this regard. |

Wait a second....I'm only 36....are people saying that women MY age shouldn't have long hair????
I thought we were talking like 50 and up. I was talking about me in the future, I wasn't even thinking of my age.

You just need to move to the Bay Area. You'd fit right in. Certainly wouldn't even APPROACH looking odd. |

Oops, guess I'm not dressing my age and should start shopping at Talbots.
Oh, and I wear over the knee boots. Guess that's bad too. |

No, actually. The Bay Area has some of EVERYTHING. You've got to try VERY hard to look out of the ordinary here.

I live in a city which is considered quite conservative...but most of my friends are artists of one kind or another...we're all late 20s and 30s and do not dress conservatively at all. I guess some older people would call it young.
Not that we dress in shiny tight dresses and look like Jersey girls or anything though. |

A vast majority of the Bay Area is about as unconservative as you can get and still be on Earth. Even a tight, shiny dress with Jersey girl makeup would barely get you noticed in most places. |

Age 47

Age 45

AGE 49

AGE 56

AGE 49

Long hair simply suits some women, regardless of age. |

Somehow I think in some parts of the world if you're not dressed like a soccer mom after a certain age you're dressing too young.
As for the long hair thing, I agree that if your hair looks like crap you need to cut it off. And if it doesn't, then do what feels good.
I grew my hair out now cause I doubt I'll be able to do it later. I'm 35. And I plan to keep growing it through next year at least. But when it gets thinner and if it ever gets brittle, I'm going back to my signature red bob. I don't care if I look a caricature of myself at 75, kinda like Carrie Donovan's glasses or Anna Wintour's severe bob (which, mine always looked better ), I still think I'll look awesome. |

I'm happy to have hair at my advanced age! I'm good with ladies wearing their hair however they like, as long as your hair is clean and healthy and combed. That hot ass mess, lice ridden, Pam Anderson look is attractive on no one. My aunt is 87 and makes me dye and relax her hair still and it is down her back. It makes her happy, that's what matters. |

This is something I'll never have to worry about. Since I was six, the longest my hair's ever been is shoulder length.
I look terrible in long hair. It just drags my face down to my knees and makes me look old. And don't even get me started on the hassle. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves. |

And that's exactly what I'm referring to. Having the ability of recognizing what works and what doesn't for oneself. A lot of people lack that, and that's not a snooty bitchy remark, that's just the truth. Just because you want something or have always loved it on others, or think it means "youth" doesn't mean you should have it.
People get hung up on it this kind of thing, but they're perfectly willing to recognize they lack the skills for anything else. It's really no different than not being good with decorating or cooking. Some people are ok at it, some people are awesome at it...some people need to let others advice them or do that shit for them. |
