Does anyone work a 2nd job part time?

The holidays are upon us and many folks take on a seasonal part time job for extra funds....or they have a part time job for extra income year around and not just for the holidays. Today I start a part time job right after I get off from my full time job. Do any of you work a 2nd job in addition to your full time job?

I don't now. But I spent the better part of 10 years (from 26 to 36) working a full-time and a part-time job (for three years of that, I went to school part-time, too). And not just at the holidays, either.

I'm not currently, but I have off and on in the past.

If my day job wasn't allowing for overtime and I need money, then I may get one for a while, then quit.

It's really rough to do. For me, anyway. I was SO tired.

Some folks can do it for years nonstop with no problem.

Most of the years after college I've had more than one job year around. I know a lot of folks do it to make ends meet, especially in these times, but I always did it to have extra discretionary funds. I don't play with my main money. Right now I'm blessed to have 3 full time clients and I had to turn down a 4th. woot!

Good luck with the job it'll be worth it. thumbs up!

Thanks. It seems like it doesn't take as much mental energy as my full time job does (as expected) but I shall see when I show up today.

The BEST PT jobs are the mindless ones. For one of my jobs I worked at a bank at night coding checks. Loved it! The time FLEW by. But I'm also the queen of the discount and did a lot of retail. The problem with that tho is obvious, right? My homegirl has worked PT at 9west for over 10 years and has about 600 pairs of shoes. Most she hasn't even worn. lol

As with others, I don't right now, but I've definitely held several part-time secondary gigs in the past.

Yes that's one of my concerns that I'll be tired, but I know when it comes to my ambition, I hold it down and able to find a way to cope with things.

Oh wow...well I did take Nine West into consideration but I don't have patience with public customers, lol sad but true. That's why I wouldn't do well with retail. I was lucky enough to find a part time job at night doing data entry work. Right down my alley, I don't have to do any phone calls or anything like that which works wonderful for me. I'll find out tonight the extent of how much added energy is exactly needed to do this data entry or if there is more to it than that. I type 70wpm so it should be a no brainer, but you never know what other duties they may add to that. And I have a friend of mine that has always worked a 2nd job part time. And she's notorius for quitting it in a hot minute then finding another less than a week from quitting a previous one. lol Luckily she's been at Macy's for the past two years part time but she also has fallen victim to buying more than she puts away due to her big discount as a Macy's employee.

thumbs up! yeah data entry is the best gig when u can find it.

Unfortunately I worked at Walmart as a Supervisor where I was on my feet all night and had to deal with nasty customers. And my other part time job I had was at Amazon.com busting my ass sorting and again on my feet all night.

Whoa, I'm sorry you had to suffer through all of that being on your feet all night. A couple of months ago I applied for a part time job at UPS as a package handler...they took me on a tour before deciding if I wanted to interview or not and I told them, thanks but no thanks. It was hot and muggy, plus you had to remember all these damn codes and stuff. It was mentally draining just keeping up with what the tour guide was saying with what you had to do...and the worst part was, if you got the codes wrong and put boxes in the wrong spots or trucks, then you would have to take down your wall of boxes (that could've probably taken up a few hours of your time loading) in order to find the one box you have incorrectly included in the shuffle.

falloff I know right!!! I sort of felt a little silly leaving there after the tour because before I went there for the tour I just figured "oh that's a great job to get some workout in at the same time and plus they let you choose your shift"....then when it was like I was walking into the pits of hell, I thought to myself..."damn I would be so tired working this damn job that I'd be falling asleep on my full time job". lol I mean that warehouse was like the boiler room where Freddy Kruger resides....and then they showed us that damn code book, I was outdone. Plus they said that there was no guarantee that you would get off of your shift on time and sometimes you would have to work over...which would go into my rest time, and my time to get to my main job on time. I knew immediately that it wasn't for me. shake

No, I've never had a second part-time job, and I wouldn't want one unless I could work from home doing data entry. I also would not be able to sustain being on my feet more than 20 minutes at a time. I'm not an overweight person, but now that I've gotten older, I just can't stand for more than 20 minutes and then I start to get tired. That's why I'm done with Prince's "festival" style concerts. If I can't have an assigned seat, I'm out.

i do a second job as a part time body model. it's not as glamorous as it may sound, but the people are nice and the money is great and i get to travel with it, so it's good for me. the only problem is the extra hours and times can be unsociable - and girls have had a problem with it in the past.

You made the right choice. UPS will work the hell out you as a package handler. I did it

in 1991. You work four hrs but will feel like you have worked 8. They tell you upfront that

the work is hard and physical and they never lie. The reward though if you can hang is

you can move up to loss prevention or driver. I only did it for about 5 months before i opted

to work cargo loading planes which was much easier. Out of those 4 hrs you probably only

really work 3.

Good luck with the PT gig.

Y'all are making me laugh! I did that UPS PT loading job too. Loxt mad weight loading the trucks in that heat. My mznager then tried to be cute saying I needed to be faster or some craziness. I was like fucker, most of the people here don't know how to read or color code, I was by far the best worker at thzt time, trained in an hour beczuse it was simple. I'm like if they are slow loaoding the conveyor that is not my fault. Lasted about 6 weeks, then they assigned me a new mnager. He gave me these small rinky dink trucks to loadand after an hour I told him he probably gave me the wrong trucks because I had way more boxes than could fit. He shrugs me off. Come to find out 3 hours later I was right and then he wanted me to unload and reload all those boxes by myself in 1/2 hour. I cussed that fucker out but good and left. I tried to speak to a manager but she blew me off so I just didn't go the next day. Best part is the drivers telling me one day I could be a driver and make 18 bucks an hour. Didn't have the heart to tell them I usuzlly made 25-50 an hour in my career.

Anyway I worked at least 1 if not 2 or 3 jobs and went to school full time for 8 years. I have been working since I was 14. No wonder I get burnt out.

Right now I will be hawking PrePaid Legal, and maybe pet insurance, and working my PT job. Did hear of a perfect job for me teaching so fingers crossed!

I have twice in the past, the same part time job each time. Basically I did cleaning with a company contracted to clean at my full-time job location. So I would get done with work, change close, walk right back in, and I'd be cleaning up after folks I work with. But it was easy, paid well, and if you were fast enough about cleaning, you could sit down and watch Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy for the last hour and get paid for it.

Thanks. It seems to be a no brainer job, though you always have some idiots there who act like prima donna's like they can't figure things out on their own and always need a managers help rolleyes. Other than that, the free coffee is great thumbs up! and so is the free water and ice machine. Oh yeah they have a soda machine in the breakroom and guess how much the sodas are? Only 25 cents. People literally were about to faint after finding that out. lol I am a bit tired but all the coffee I drunk this morning still has me up and I can't seem to get to sleep like I thought I was...oh well, guess I'll be spending my time watching Boardwalk Empire tonight excited and gear up for work at my regular 9 to 5 (really 7 to 4) tomorrow. Then I'll be starting back up at the part time gig after my regular job on Thursday of this week.

I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

Yes... I needed a part time job to help my mom... but also for physical exercise.

My full time job is very mental, my part time is very physical.

Been doing it for 4 years now, and loving it.

I guess, in theory, I've had a second job since August. I've done two plays back to back - and rehearsals are pretty much every night from 7 to 10.

I don't get paid, but it's work nonetheless.
