Yes it's akin to ESPN having Rush Dumbaugh on as an analyst. ESPN had to know when they hired him he was chomping at the bit to say something controversial as he did with Donovan McNabb. Don't laugh at my funk
This funk is a serious joint

He also picks on Whoopi. He started with her as soon as he sat down. He did that last time he was on the show.
Sometimes you need to walk away to keep from saying/doing something you can't take back. I do that, too. It's not because I couldn't hack it, it's because I start to realize that I'm at the point of no return and if I stay it'll be worse.

I don't think they looked stupid at all.
He was misleading in the information he was presenting, and rude, pompus, and condescending to them while doing so. There's never an excuse for the type of behavior the O'Reillys of the world exhibit on television. I personally eschew the mode of antics he so often employs and don't blame them one bit for walking out on him.

It's a kind of layered look employed by middle aged bohemians, professors, and intellectuals who live in countries with four seasons, especially with cold winters, dressed in black & neutral tones with occasional splashes of color and bold jewelry pieces (red, purple, and turquoise seem to be favorites). Dance concert with Graham technique? A roundtable literature discussion in one of those old ivy covered buildings with deep mahogany wood libraries? Or an Actor's Studio class? Or pick a west bank Parisian cafe chock full of struggling opera singers and grouchy, whining upright bassists? Yup, inevitably you'll always find at least one in the crowd employing what I call the up market "reject from Les Miserables chorus" look

I can't imagine someone like, say, Rachel Maddow ever walk out on a guest on her own show.
They could've totally sat there and let him go on and simply closed the segment by calmly stating. Thank you for being here, Mr. Reily. You are utterly delusional and ridiculous. Up next stay tuned for...
To me it looks bad (and I'm a fan of both Whoopi and Joy) because it's YOUR DAMN SHOW, you don't give up control like that and to me walking off is not taking control, it's handing it over. This is not a conversation on the street or a bar...it's your MF show ladies, hold your shit!
They've had him on before. This should be no surprise to either of them. It would have looked much better for them to opt out of the segment from the get go.

and that's what baffled me, they've had him and had actually handled him quite well before, so why walk off now?
I think it made them & the show look stupid (or more stupid to some), more than it was a statement, especially when they went back in again.
I really laughed though when Joy took Whoopi's seat and let her sit beside him "what's that book where they're all behind the wardrobe?"

I think some of you are missing the point. Nobody would be talking about this, or what he said, if they didn't get up and leave. It would have been just another day on the view and just another hateful comment from O'Reilly. BECAUSE they got up and left, thereby drawing massive amounts of attention to HIS comment (not THEIR actions, which so many of you are focusing on), people are talking about it. Yes, they got up and left. But why? Because Bill O'Reilly is a manipulative, divisive, hate spreading, racist douche bag.

That would imply that it was planned beforehand. Judging by Whoopi's initial bleeped reaction I'm going to have to disagree with you on that.

On today's show, Whoopi said she reached her saturation point. She mentioned how he started with on her on Halloween and last week. She also said that once she said "the B word" (bullshit), she knew she was done, because the next thing was to cuss him out.
