My VCR recently died actually and I plan on getting a new one with a combo region-free DVD player. I still have a few 80s music video VHS tapes that I would like to watch that have never been released on DVD.

I still have a VCR for backup just in case I want to record a show and the DVD recorder wants to act a fool that day. Some days the DVD recorder will act just fine and other days it will say "bad disc" but hours later the disc will read just fine. They've still got flaws to work out with those DVD recorders. Last night, I was dubbing a DVD from an external DVD player and the damn recorder started making a loud noise like a fan and froze up. I went through 2 blank discs and had to throw them away while it did this. It has done it before. A friend of mine also has a DVD recorder and he says his does the same thing from time to time.
Like I said, I use the VCR for backup. If that damned DVD recorder acts a fool, I just record the show onto a VHS tape and then record that VHS tape onto a DVD later when the recorder wants to act right. Andy is a four letter word.

I'd still use it, but it doesn't work too well anymore. Otherwise I wouldn't really know why I'd stop using it. The Sign "O" The Times concert movie just isn't as good on DVD! I still have the same player that my mom bought for our family in 1986, I think. It didn't start crapping out until about a year ago.
I'm not sure if I even like watching DVDs that much. Sure, VHS tapes had to be rewound, but the menus and other nonsense on DVDs are quite annoying too. I've also done some sample-based records where I've lifted up bits and pieces from movies and documentaries (sound effects, lines from conversations etc.). I quite like the character of the sound on VHS.

Our Sony VCR finally did last year after 13 years of solid use.
We boucht a cheap Toshiba VCR/DVD unit so that we can transfer the kids' old VHS-C movies onto DVDs. Haven't transferred a single on.
Anyway...the other night we had a thing at school for one of the kids, so my wife wante dto record Bones. Turns out.. the damed thing doesn't have an input for the cable-tv. So far as I can tell, it's output only. I think.

Not too young... Never had one, though. By the time I got my mother interested in the idea, VHS had come out. "Love Hurts. Your lies, they cut me. Now your words don't mean a thing. I don't give a damn if you ever loved me..." -Cher, "Woman's World"

I don't have one now...but the first VCR I bought was a Beta. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

it's display was the first thing that stopped working, just weeks outside it's 12 month warranty period, shortly after came the remote control.
I wish I could say that was the last time I bought a SONY product

I still have a VCR. I tried to watch some of my old Marilyn Manson videos and the screen went blue. Then there was print that said I needed to clean the heads of my VCR. I don't know if that was my VCR commenting on Marilyn Manson or what. Anyways, I don't have a VCR cleaner and you can't exactly go to the store to buy one. Shake it til ya make it

There's a guy in this area that dresses up like him and wears the same type of make-up. He has been doing that at least for 3-4 years and must be in his 20s now. A fairly basic mall goth, I'd say. He has the same body type and the same type of face as ol' Marilyn does.

aren't you from Scandinavia? i reckoned with all of the crazy metal bands up there you'd have more than a few of those types wandering about.
of course, i'm just stereotyping. i've never had the pleasure of being there. everyone's a fruit & nut case

Marilyn Manson is a bit different type of an artist than what the metal crowd are usually into. I don't think metal fans in general try to imitate the looks of anyone else. There's definitely a lot of typical items of clothing and hair styles that bind them together, but there's not the type of a star cult present in those circles. I'd say Manson has appealed for the past 10 years mostly to the goth audiences.
During the past decade there's definitely been a lot of goth teenagers around though.
