I love Hayao Miyazaki and Studio Ghibli I honestly believe that his films are better than a lot of Disney's films from the past 20 years
here are my favorites
Spirited Away Princess Mononoke Howl's Moving Castle Nausicaa Of The Valley Wind Castle of Caligistro (Lupin III) Grave Of Fireflies (I watched it once and couldn't watch again....it's so sad )
I just watched Ponyo yesterday and I'm going to watch Whisper Of The Heart and The Cat Returns
Porco Rosso and Kiki's Delivery Service are good too "We may deify or demonize them but not ignore them. And we call them genius, because they are the people who change the world."

I've seen those one (in bold) and I've got Nausicäa and Laputa on for next movie night
they are much more inventive and original that's for sure.
I've never seen my guys laugh so HARD! as when Totoro jumps on the ground to make the raindrops fall out of the tree, and the bit when he made the trees grow and grow and grow!

I truly enjoyed Porco Rosso...which is a true masterpiece
I didn't like Princess Monokoke, at all...

I actually thought it dragged on a bit, but possibly that was because I was a bit drunk

Don't blame the Japanese Jonathan Swift invented it for Gulliver's Travels

so, that movie could be about a puta who lives in a floating palace?? genius
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
I just read on wikipedia it's a whole floating piece of land!
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
but is there a puta or not?
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
there is like a tyrannical ruler, and women apparently request to leave the floating island all the time, but the request is denied them, since they have a habit of not returning.
No mention of any putas | |

I've only seen:
Grave of the Fireflies Princess Mononoke Spirited Away Howl's Moving Castle Ponyo
I agree that Grave Of The Fireflies is extremely sad. I won't be watching that again anytime soon.
Princess Mononoke is one of my favorite films ever.
My niece loved Ponyo when I brought my blu-ray copy over for her to watch--much to the chagrin of my brother and his wife because now they have to buy it.

I clicked on this thinking it was about the Ghibli:
A mind bogglingly beutiful car from Maserati Now I'm older than movies, Now I'm wiser than dreams, And I know who's there

They'll probably like it too "We may deify or demonize them but not ignore them. And we call them genius, because they are the people who change the world."

I'm embarrassed to say I haven't watched My Neighbor Totoro yet
I've been into Japanese animation/anime for over 10 years now and I haven't seen one of the essentials yet "We may deify or demonize them but not ignore them. And we call them genius, because they are the people who change the world."

is this thread about anime???
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Posting that pic on a Studio Ghibli thread is a huge insult.

not that kind of anime! "We may deify or demonize them but not ignore them. And we call them genius, because they are the people who change the world."

nothing. it's a made-up place name everyone's a fruit & nut case

sorry! i mean, erm, good! uh.... i just didn't like the way the lifeforce was portrayed as a giant, green stag creature.
it's all good! | |

Kinda off topic....
Osamu Tekuza (who influenced Hayao Miyazaki) was also a genius in my opinion. He can be considered the Godfather of Anime. I still believe that Disney believe lifted some things from his series "Kimba The White Lion" to make The Lion King
Some of his best works include Astro Boy (the first Japanese animated series to air in the United States), Black Jack, Phoenix, and of course Metropolis "We may deify or demonize them but not ignore them. And we call them genius, because they are the people who change the world."

yeah, I suppose it would be dumb to live on a floating island called "the slut"
| |
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
shit yeah! I couldn't believe Lion King when I saw it, having been a Kimba fan for years!
