Yes, you can blame Clooney, with his no acting ass. The previews for that movie looked bad, I didn't even bother. Mr. Freeze and Two-face have always been my favorite villains. It's my understanding Kilmer would have played the part again ( "Batman and Robin") if he hadn't clashed with the producer and the director. Needless to say I like Christian Bale and I look forward to how the franchise evolves with him as Batman. I hope they decided to use some of the lessor known villains such as False Face, Shame, and Hush.

Val Kilmer seemed like a great choice, but I don't think his movie was very good either. That is not necessarily his fault.

I don't mind Clooney generally, but he did seem incredibly dull as Batman. Sort of a cardboard cutout, no personality.

Since this thread has now turned into a commenatry about all the Batman films, I suppose I can put in my 2¢:

I was never a fan of the Batman character from the comics. So while I've seen all of the Batman movies, the only ones I own and will watch again are the first two because I like Tim Burton. I actually watch Batman Returns almost every Christmas because I think it's a nice holiday film.

The last two movies directed by Nolan are well done of course, but I can't stand Christian Bale as Batman. He sucks.

Bale's Batman voice is awful. Plus, he's too short, his chin is too pointy and I always hear a faint lisp when he speaks which is totally inappropriate for Batman.

and I certainly prefer the ugly/scary voice of Bale and not the soft/unremarkable whispers of Keaton/Kilmer or the bullshit of Clooney, who used the same voice for Bruce Wayne/Batman

A gruff voice can be appropriate for Batman, AND Bale's choice for his own voice can suck. They are not mutually exclusive.

That's a good point, before Christian Bale took over the role I always thought the Batman franchise took somewhat of a tongue and cheek influence from the 60's TV series. I thought the story-line was a bit weak, Kilmer and cast saved that movie.

It was pure cinematic donkey shit that smelled to high heaven. It offended the angels I tell ya. It was so bad that Orsen Wells turned in his grave....TWICE!

It started out lousy and ended up dreadful.

It was so bad that it ought to be against the law to view the film in groups of 4 or more.

Christian Bale is English. That slight lisp happens because he's impersonating a US accent. If you hear how he talks normally, you'd probably change your mind and become impressed at how well he can sound "American." I know I was shocked when I first heard his natural voice during an interview, lol.

those two Superman sequels were very weak, but they're not as embarrassing as B&R...even Daredevil is more enjoyable than B&R...even 1990's Captain America is more entertaining than B&R...

i always thought that val was a good bruce but bad batman and clooney a good batman but a bad bruce

not really a fan of the new batman movies either ..just the way the batmobile looked just threw me off from jump

batman returns isn't that great either imo because of danny devito. i was more intriged with max because christopher walken is the shit!!

but it is kind of funny that after batman and robin, alicia silverstone "disappeared" drew barrymore and vivica fox are hardly in it either

I think Michael Keaton was the best Batman so far. He had the right kind of brooding darkness about him, which was surprising coming from a comedian. Christian Bale gets a strong second place. Clooney and Kilmer were both totally miscast. Clooney kind of looked like the way Bruce Wayne was drawn but he didn't have close to the right demeanour or personality. Kilmer was miles off target in every way.

As for the movies I would probably rank them like this:

1. The Dark Knight

2. Batman

3. Batman Returns

4. Batman Begins

5. Batman Forever

6. Batman & Robin

I liked this movie when it came out. I suppose it was kind of cartoony and that appealed to me then, but last time it was on TNT, I tried to watch it and it was AWFUL!

Really, the only Batman movies I LOVE are the first 2 (God bless you Tim Burton). And even though the recent ones have certainly been good, Christian Bale is thee worst Batman ever. Yes, even George Clooney was better!
