Hoarders Why do I even watch it? I just end up yelling at the tv screen and pissed off every time. Why are these nasty ass people (yes I know it's insensitive of me and that this is a disorder) not forced to live in some sort of monitored group home situation? Especially when kids are involved.
Lawd and then they always gotta start up with it being everybody else's problem. [Edited 9/6/10 20:34pm]

I know, but it's not life or death when you compare it to other illnesses, I guess.
Kids growing up with hoarder parents need support groups poor things

I guess I wouldn't be the best candidate to be a clinical psychotherapist.

I watch that ( sometimes )
I am watching "Obsessed" right now
The animal Hoarders sometimes is for sure

But it is life or death sometimes. Kids with severe repiratory issues and their hoarding mother just telling them they need to go take a puff on their inhaler.
Fuck her and all her shit.

Oh that's a whole other thing that gets me going. I'm sorry, if folk are finding flattened cats you forgot lived with you, you are either a criminal or need to be institutionalized or monitored.

OMG and the fuckin spouses who are not hoarders, but will stay there and subject their children to it.
I need to breathe. | |

That show is a trip and it pisses me off too sometimes. I'm like, just throw the shit away!! WTF!!
But, I know it's not that easy for them.
Now the animal hoarders.....that's just some nasty shit....I love animals too, but damn... "Bring friends, bring your children and bring foot spray 'cause it's gon' be funky." ~ Prince

I am struggling with this issue right now. I watched this once and I was I have no patience for drug addicts either. As I am going to be a women's therapist, I know I will have to deal with some of these issues and I just don't know if I can be objective.
I can't even watch this how anymore. I screamed at the TV too and I want to strangle these people.

Effa condition, a support group and being insensitive! They need to clean their damn houses! Nasty ass blippity bleep. Collectors rent a secured, temperature controlled storage space for the items they have no room for and they keep their shit organized. Trust me. Of this, I know. That show is just bad housekeeping on steroids. I can't watch it. I certainly don't fault anybody who does watch it. But I think the people who produce shows like this need to be smacked up side the head about 14 times.

I completely get that it's a disorder and that it's not just mental but chemical. And i feel for them on that respect. I just don't know why it's not considered more of a disability and why they are given so much choice in some matters.
No, you can't go through every damn thing that's in the trash?
I want my own show. | |

I guess part of my impatience comes from some situations on either side of our families (not hoarding, though not much less complicated) where I feel our family members have just enabled the folk in question to no end. There has to be a limit. Everyone with a "condition" is cuddled and babied to no end. [Edited 9/6/10 20:49pm]

Exactly
I don't have a lot of patience, so I could NOT be a psychologist with these kinds of clients either. "Bring friends, bring your children and bring foot spray 'cause it's gon' be funky." ~ Prince

Sometimes you can see a hint of "Fuck this shit" in the therapists eye. OH! And in my show, if I find a flattened pet under your shit, I will be allowed to beat your ass mercilessly with it.

There it is. Right there. Effin' world gone soft. Let's worry and talk about it, but not DO anything.
You touched a sore spot with this one. I might need to get some ointment or somethin'.
I'd probably watch your show, btw. Depends on what it was about.

I know someone with this problem
it goes way beyond not knowing how to clean

Throw away. Thin out. Donate. Get over it and get rid of it. Have a yard sale. Rent a friggin' dumpster... and clean the damn house. If they can't do it I'm sure most people have a family member or friend who are capable of shoveling that mess outside and into some garbage bags.

My show? I'd prolly just go around tellin some folk off harshly about some shit they say they cannot help.

Oh for sure.
But it's behavior that goes against reason and reality. It doesn't seem to me the treatment is severe enough. If you have a compulsion that literally causes your home to collapse or makes everyone, including your children chronically ill, against your better judgment (these people for the most part can recognize the consequences of their behaviors)...just chatting with a counselor once a week ain't gonna cut it. it's not that they don't WANT to live in a nice place, at least in the case of my friend she is ashamed of how she lives, but the anxiety she suffers when not being able to account for every piece of paper or stuff she amasses, is extreme - it's obsessive and compulsive. I've been there trying to help her, but she wouldn't let me take anything out without her looking at it all first

They differ. There was a lady on tonight who was a beast to her daughters and sat there and told the camera "I don't mind having to walk over stuff."
OK, you are nasty. Thank you for playing lady.

Dude! I'm sayin! I'm don't know if we've talked about this before or not, but I don't believe in 99% of this crap. People don't have a condition, disorder, neurosis, etc. until somebody TELLS them they do! It's freakin' nonsense and it's a scam. ANYBODY can go to a doctor a couple times these days and come away being diagnosed with some sort of "problem". Bullshit! I'm sorry, but the therapy for hoarders should be a simple forced shoveling out of their possessions and a severe house cleaning. Let them see what their house looks like cleaned and orderly and THEN ask them about their "condition".

I know. Which is why I wish they could live in some sort of group home or monitored quarters where they cannot bring stuff and collect. At least for an extended period. The way a drug addict has to sometimes spend a long period of time in rehab. [Edited 9/6/10 21:08pm]
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
yeah, the behaviour has to be changed, since if you go and clean it all out, they just start again

I'm not nearly as bothered (disturbed, yes, but not upset) by the ones where no children or animals are involved. I figure, you wanna (or choose to) wallow in your misery and nastiness...that's your choice. But as soon as you put kids and pets in the picture...UGH! And the second I see a kid crying over the situation I'm a mess.
