Agreed.

I don't think anyone's doing that here, though. Simply saying that Forever 21 is cheap. No one's saying that's a bad thing.

Yeah, I definitely didn't mean to imply that there was anything wrong with not paying a lot - especially if you're buying something that's going to have a limited lifespan.

<--- almost never pays retail

Hell, the dress I wore at John's cost $20. biggrin

My 73-year-old mother would totally wear the jacket on the right. nod

Now that I think of it, there are times when I'm shopping and I've told myself, "that's a tad too young for me"...but a lot of times a piece that a 20 year old wears well can also work well on someone my age. It's how you wear it, or more specifically what you wear it with.

As for high vs low shopping...I love the look of mixing high end pieces with really inexpensive ones. Hell, I even pick up pieces from Walmart from time to time. I'm addicted to shopping and can't help checking out clothes even when I'm at a store to pick up shampoo. I'm actually wearing an oversize grey cardigan from Walmart right now....not all their clothes are made of awful acrylic, this sweater isn't and I think I paid only $20 for it.

To me the most stylish people are those that can find great pieces anywhere, regardless of the price, and pull it all together and look amazing.

boxed boxed boxed

Okay, so I've gotten basic shirts, sweaters, accessories from there before.

Yes, a lot of the stuff may look a little "young", but I wouldn't buy that crap anyway. I think the stuff is true to size, and yea it's cheap, but who cares? When it's cheap, you don't mind letting it go after a few wears (but most of the stuff I've gotten has lasted long enough)

If you will, so will I

I know I'm not in the norm when it comes to spending on clothes because of my job, but $50 for a whole outfit PLUS accessories? I think my earlobes turned a lil' green just reading that.

Forever 21 is the place you go when you want something super trendy you'll only wear once or twice.

nod

You wear them to the club, and toss 'em later.

Fashion/Style has nothing to do with $$$. My beef (if you can call it that, I'm just trash talkin blahblah lol) is with trying to look too young and looking sad...which can just as easily be achieved by paying designer prices. lol

I agree. nod (see my example at #20 )

I am a bargain shopper with the best of them. BUT sometimes "discount fashion" is poorly made with subpar materials. There is a difference between "inexpensive" and "cheap".

yeahthat

I know I'm expected to be a clothes snob. It's what I do for a living. And yes, I spend an exhorbitant amount of money on my work clothes. And that's WITH a very generous discount! But it's part of my job.

That said, my "play" clothes? Not high end. I loves me some Gap and VS online! But I'm a woman of a certain age and I realize that wearing certain things, i.e. a lot of the stuff in Forever 21, will make me look age desperate and I'm anything but. I'm proud of my age. I have no desire to look or dress like a teenager. Been there, done that, have the emotional scars to prove it.

Just as in anything else, there are things you can go inexpensive on and it doesn't matter. I'll never spend $30 on mascara and I'll never spend $200 on a t-shirt.
