Anyone 40 Plus Concerned About Their Jobs & Retirement Options in the U.S.? I'm finishing a degree and the job options don't look good currently... Does anyone on this board in the U.S. think about going overseas for job options and/or do you worry about your retirement benefits with the job you have now? My parents were forced to go back to work after being retired for 10 years, after losing savings in investments suggested by my uncle. For those of you considering moving overseas for job opportunities, what can you suggest? My field is nonprofits, which is currently being hit hard by the bad economy. And, although so-called economy experts say that "the recession is over," those out of jobs don't agree. A jobless recovery is no recovery at all. What do ya'll think about these issues? I'm close to "early" retirement age now, but I don't know if I'll have my current job in two years, and I certainly don't want to have to start over and look for another. As far as going abroad, no. I would not take that drastic a measure. I worry about Social Security. Right now, the employed folk are those who are filling the coffers for the already retired, like my mom. However, will there be enough to go around when I'm ready to collect? If unemployment continues, I think not. Anyway, I empathize with you, and good luck in your search. | |
