He wasn't one of my favorite comedians or even one that I particularly liked but he has made me laugh with his craft and I do have an undeniable respect for comedians. I felt this should be posted out of that respect.

Greg had been hospitalized in New Brunswick, NJ after he overdosed on prescription pills last weekend. A source said the overdose was not a suicide attempt.

Giraldo was best known for his celebrity roast appearances.
He had also been a judge on "Last Comic Standing."

A little ironic that he'd roast all of those celebs with drug problems and that's what he ultimately died from.

Shocking and, of course, sad. I just saw him on Last Comic Standing a few weeks ago.

By all accounts, a great dude. And he had kids. Tragic.

I'm frightened how this can happen. Different docs prescribing different drugs not compatible etc I think (hope) they are working on some kind of patient database, so you can look up a patient and see what they are on already before prescribing new stuff. Even if it's by patient NUMBER so folks can stay anonymous. I suppose people will always cheat the system

Could be, we don't know.

People don't realize how easy it is to overdose on acetaminophen, though (Tylenol/paracetamol). It's in most narcotic pain meds, cold and allergy formulations and stuff like Midol and Pamprin. People have overdosed just by taking some pain pills for pain, then taking more medicines for other symptoms, not realizing that they're triple-dosing themselves with acetaminophen.

I have no idea what the specifics are in Giraldo's case, and of course it's highly probable for a comedian to have a substance abuse problem. But "innocent" accidental overdoses do happen.

I hear ya. These were definitely perscription, which leads me to believe pain meds but who knows. What I do know is that doctors prescribe them way too much and there needs to be laws and regulations on this. The whole thing is a shame. He was a funny MF!!!
