YOU! Questions about YOU!!!

So, yesterday evening, I'm watching YouTube's live stream of Farm Aid and marveling at the quality of the picture and Jeff Tweedy comes on.

In case ya didn't know, Tweedy is the leader of a band called Wilco. A lot of people I like seem to love Wilco, but I've yet to hear what the fuss is all about. Anyhoo...

So, I go a-googlin' Wilco (Wikipedia, that is - Texas Tea) and that leads me to the page for Jay Bennett. Bennett died last year, at the age of 45.

Sez Wikipedia:

Immediately after his death, a friend of Bennett's posted a blog through the musician's MySpace account, saying that Bennett had "been in a really good place these last few years." The post also revealed that he had been looking forward to engineering an unreleased Titanic Love Affair album, another album with Edward Burch titled The Palace at 4AM Part II, and that he had recently enrolled in graduate school classes at the University of Illinois. The post ended by encouraging fans to engage in some of Bennett's favorite activities: "listen to a Nick Lowe album, watch some Mythbusters on Discovery, play Warren Zevon's "Roland the Headless Thompson Gunner", rent Pay It Forward (one of his favorite movies), write a song with the TV on and the sound off," and focus on Bennett's loving spirit.

I like this.

So, my fellow "orgers", what should people be encouraged to do after your untimely demise? biggrin

Listen to a Prince album, watch some Jem, play Run DMC's "Sucker MCs", rent Batman (one of my favorite movies), program a drum pattern from a b-boy breakbeat, and focus on my loving spirit.

hmmm

Play the Fall's Hex Enduction Hour.

Read Carl Sagan's Demon Haunted World and the wikipedia page on Dictyostelium discoideum, a single cell amoeba that will, during times of food scarcity, bond with others of its type to form a slug-like organism that will seek out an open, sun lit area. 20% of the amoebas will then altruistically sacrifice themselves in forming a stalk which supports the remaining amoebas who form viable spores that will rest at the end of the stalk so that they can become attached to the leg of an insect or be picked up in the breeze so that they can find food. If two unrelated populations of amoebas are put together to form the 'slug,' they will compete to try to prevent their kin from forming the stalk, supporting WD Hamilton's theory of kin selection.

Watch Beyond the Valley of the Dolls.

Kind of morbid to think about for me - I'm kind of an in the moment type of guy. However, there's a short list of songs that are my absolute favorite and most personally inspirational. It's been very slowly growing over the entirety of my life, but at this point I still think it would only be a disc or two (which will probably be obsolete by the time I die). I've been thinking I'd put that list in my will and ask that folks be given a copy of those songs to do with what they will. Maybe they would inspire them, maybe they'd find good memories there, or maybe they'd just toss 'em. Won't matter to me - I'll be dead. lol

Eat yummy indian or thai food, nap on the couch while Friends (season 4 or 5, preferably) is playing on dvd, go for a long walk by yourself through the park in the fall, bake something rich and chocolate-y, get tipsy on vodka and dance around your living room with good friends whilest listening to the Cure, Peaches, They Might Be Giants, Dee-Lite and /or anything that makes you feel nostalgic. When you're tired of that, sit down on the floor and listen to Kid A before going to bed.

Go to a (contemporary) art museum.

Make a donation to a secular and preferrably arts related nonprofit.

Listen to some Sam Cooke and Pfunk.

The check. The string he dropped. The Mona Lisa. The musical notes taken out of a hat. The glass. The toy shotgun painting. The things he found. Therefore, everything seen–every object, that is, plus the process of looking at it–is a Duchamp.

I have absolutely already done that. eek Its title is "Songs of Transformation."

Inner CD comment...

Songs that changed my life/attitude and made me feel/believe there was a reason to go on...and so I have gone to another place and plane. Whether that be dirt, dust, the Milky Way, or I come back as a bullfrog...Enjoy...
As for my 'to do' list...
Read Crisis of Conscience by Ray Franz
Pay It Foward to more than one person (literally)
Love someone who is difficult to love
Eat the worm
Forgot to add that the first song on my list is Queen - Who Wants To Live Forever (High Quality) razz

cool I don't think it's that uncommon an idea, I just want to make it as official as possible by putting it in the will. As far as choosing the songs, shooooo! I listen to new music almost every day. I suppose I could choose songs now, but I'm sure the list will change many times.

There are several Doors numbers I chose but this is one of my faves...I was never allowed to listen to them and they became one of my favorite bands.

And no I have no clue where the hell we go when we die, lol I just know that if I go before my mother this song will piss her off so much she will run out of the place screaming. evillol

These are just a few. I also have some classical and Prince songs.

Forgot an important one...my mother hated Michael and I hope she will at least listen to his words and understand how he really was.
