I'm not a parent yet, but to answer your question...

I'd have to get to know her first and find out if she does her job well as a teacher for children; find out a little more about her background in teaching, etc. I personally believe in second chances and if she's a good teacher and has a passion for that, then I don't see why her past should haunt her in such a way. As long as she doesn't talk about her past or sexual exploits in the classroom or does anything inappropriate, I don't think I'd really have a problem with her teaching my children.

God knows what crazy pasts my teachers and professors have. But that's their business and it never comes out in the classroom.

My coworkers and I were talking about this today. This is the kind of shit that makes us ALL look bad, so people say, "Those teachers... "

I threw out the "what if": What if she danced to make money to pay for school so she could become a teacher? It's not like she's still doing it on the weekends...?

Some people have skeletons in their closets. It was unfortunate that she opened the door and pushed hers out.

Is it wrong that I heard this thread title to the tune of "Friend, Lover, Sister, Mother/Wife"?

I don't have any problem with her past, her discussing it or her writing a book about it. But the way that article reads she might have crossed some lines by bringing her classroom into the discussion. Just keep the two seperate.

Look, if this young woman has a passion for teaching and is good at it, leave her the hell alone! It's bad enough that some of our schools are filled with incompetent, don't give a good goddamn, lackadaisical teachers. I'm not saying that about all teachers, but here in DC, our schools are full of incompetents. I don't care what that woman has done in her past. If she's a good teacher and the children are benefiting from her lessons, then that's all that matters. The person who leaked the tape probably has more bones rattling around than she does!
