Katy Perry's taped performance for "Sesame Street," which was released to YouTube earlier this week and drew complaints from parents due to the pop star's controversial attire, will no longer air on the children's show, creator Sesame Workshop said Thursday morning (Sept. 23).

The clip was slated to run during "Sesame Street's" upcoming season but has now been pulled due to protests from parents who found Perry's outfit to be too provocative. "We use parodies and celebrity segments to interest adults in the show...We also value our viewer's opinions and particularly those of parents," Sesame Workshop said in a statement. "In light of the feedback we've received on the Katy Perry music video which was released on YouTube only, we have decided we will not air the segment on the television broadcast of 'Sesame Street,' which is aimed at preschoolers."

In the video, Perry performs a riff on her hit single "Hot N Cold" alongside Elmo, while wearing a green dress with a sheer panel that reveals her cleavage. Elmo is shown running around the hem of Perry's dress while she sings, "How am I supposed to play with you?/You're up and you're down/You're running around."

Perry's performance is no longer available on "Sesame Street's" official YouTube page but remains on the singer's official website. A spokeswoman for the pop star said in a statement, "Katy enjoyed working with 'Sesame Street,' Kevin Clash and playing dress up with Elmo. You can view all the fun at www.katyperry.com."

I actually felt her outfit was a bit much. She really sould have worn something else, and Sesame Street should have realized parents wouldn't have liked the outfit. Bad move on Sesame Street.

I respect your opinion, but a bit much for what? I've never known any pre-schoolers who would have been all, "wow, look at her boobies!" Or, "her outfit really is a bit too revealing". It's actually pretty tame compared to a lot of what she wears and I'd wager that's the problem. The issue has as much to do with the usual haterade flowing as it does that video. I absolutely DESPISE Elmo (that little bastard ruined Sesame Street imo) and I found the video fairly entertaining.

I agree, she's not acting overtly sexy, but the outfit itself is practically lingerie.

Oh please. I think when I was a young preschool child, I saw Charo on Sesame Street not only show far more cleavage but doing her coochie coochie dance that had her jiggling her boobs for all to see, yet no one made a fuss about it. I'm willing to bet that some right-wing tea party group called in with a bunch of complaints about this to slam PBS and make them look bad.

LOL my son is 3 and surely would have been saying "wow, look at her boobies!". Matter of fact though, I wasn't offened by it because it can happen anywhere such as Panera Bread. That's where I was the last time my son pointed to the girl coming in the door and said the same thing! I figure they see worse at the mall or out in public really........

I just thought it was pretty entertaining compared to a lot of the watered down nonsensical pablum that's usually on Sesame Street these days. That show was really cool when I was growing up. It's a sad reflection of what it used to be these days. Largely because it's mostly "The Elmo Show".

I'm pretty sure it's because it looks exactly the way I remember my childhood. The playground looks like the ones I played in, the clothes and haircuts are emblematic of the period when I was very young, and I lived in a super-diverse city where all my friends looked like the kids in the video.

My son watched it and thought the new version was hilarious. I asked him if he even noticed her boobs and he said no. He said that her face looked like one of his teacher's.

But my son has also told me that he likes Katy Perry because she is pretty.

I thought the outfit was fine, it doesn't even really show much boob at all...it's just a vintage dress cut.

Not in the way that uptight parents are finding it "offensive". It's just not the same thing. Boobs are not arousing to a toddler or preschooler, or even younger grade schoolers for that matter. It's arousing to parents, or they're jealous they don't look like that , so all of a sudden it's too offensive for their children to view it.
