I watched a few episodes of the first series and for some reason I found the swearing grated on me. Funny, as I think 'The Wire' (based solely on the first season, mind, as that's all I've seen) is one of the best series ever. That has plenty of cussing. In Dexter it stuck out though, feeling forced and unnecessary. Just distracting and clunky.

^ not sure what happened to the rest of my message. Season 3 was the reason I stopped watching is what I was trying to say. When it became ok for Dexter to do what he did with other peoples knowledge then it just became too 'far fetched' - Shame because Season 1 was ace and Season 2 built on it

Season 2 was actually my least favorite. The convenience of Lila taking out the one person that knew Dexter's secret but didn't fit the code, the pointlessness of Esme, and Lila never seemed all that believably threatening to me. He's up against a serial killer that knows him almost more than he knows himself, a power-tripping, bloodthirsty DA that can cover up shit as he sees fit, a serial killer that's been doing it like 30 years...and some crazy chick from support group meetings. One of those things don't fit. And I thought 3 was a nice change of pace, Dexter forced to live alongside someone who knows about him.

Half of that probably came from his sister, who I find annoying as hell. When she does it, it bothers me. When Doakes does it, it's comical.

Even my missus doesn't like it (the show in general, and the swearing), and she loves anything to do with death, murder, crime, forensics etc. AND she swears like a sailor (she doesn't "give a DAMN SHIT!" nod ), so it's definitely a strange one. On paper it should be something we'd like, but instead I find myself, much to my horror, having to agree with Erin. sad

Understandable. All the crime and forensics is sort of secondary in the series. It really only serves as an excuse to let Dexter be Dexter, and not much more.

I think there's something in the 'faux' that makes it impossible for us to disagree. We always end up so amiable. He called it 'bromance', which probably wouldn't have been my term for it, but I'm sensitive to his feelings so I'm happy to go along with it, for the sake of faux unity.

Lila was very annoying...but I liked the tension, Dexters biggest fear was being rumbled and, when Dokes susses him out and later shot him, it was a "oh shit how's he going to get out of this?". Lilas intervention was a cop out though. Something about season 3 just didn click....and I was a massive, giant, huge fan of 1 and 2 so it must have been a big shift for me to not watch it

Why aren't daggers being thrown at you??

Because he gave several reasons why he doesn't like it and said "I" multiple times in his posts. If you had even said "I think it sucks" chances are pretty good I wouldn't have said anything beyond, "oh yeah, why is that?". You wanted a reaction and you got one.

Debra is by far the most annoying character on the show for me and the people I watch/discuss the show with. She looks like a male horse and talks out the side of her mouth. The way they dress her on the show doesn't help, either. I can't completely agree about her swearing, though, because that makes me laugh. lol I think it's supposed to be purposely jarring. I can't believe Jennifer is married to Michael C Hall in real life. I mean, love is blind and all that. But she's got the body of a SKINNY teenage boy. confused lol

You know, I didn't like Deb in the first season...(in fact, I didn't like anyone but Dexter in the first season...) but I really grew to like her character. Jennifer Carpenter is quite talented, to me, and I think she brings a lot to the role.

........ a lot of ugly?

redface lol I agree with you regarding her acting abilities. And like I said, her swearing works for me. But looking at her wearing boy clothes, talkin' out the side of her horse face... mm...
