I just foend out that I will be a free woman again as of Jan 1!!! I start training my replacement at work in October, and she is starting Jan 1st.
I thought I'd be working up until the baby came in March, but I've already been replaced.
I guess that gives me plenty of time to get baby stuff ready though. I've reached in darkness and come out with treasure

Ouch! Is it really legal to let somebody go like that just because they will eventually go on maternity leave?

Wait are you saying they looked for your replacement because your pregnant, or because you decided to leave the job on your own? Proud Memaw to Seyhan Olivia Christine ,Zoey Cirilo Jaylee & Ellie Abigail Lillian

Yes, it is illegal.
I never told her when I was planning to leave cause actually I was planning to work up until about 2 weeks before my due date. That way the new girl would have time to call me with problems or questions if need be.
The way this place works, is nobody knows how to do shit but the secretary. The secratary basically runs the business and is responsible for making sure this place is up an running, so I can hardly just wait till I'm popping a baby out to call her and say, I won't be coming in for a few months, uyanno?
I was unsure as to wether I would come back after the baby or not, and I was def planning on working well into Feb or March 1st.
But no biggie. My boss just made my decision a lot easier on me. I've reached in darkness and come out with treasure

So you could sue her then?

Todd makes enough to pay the bills.
And I'm gonna start babysitting from home, like I used to do when Noah and Daisy were small. I've reached in darkness and come out with treasure

I think it's usually uncomfortable when working relationships start to get too personal. As an employee I prefer to feel like all they owe me is a paycheck and all I owe them is my work effort. The day we stop working together things might evolve differently though.

Anyway, I'm glad you don't feel too bad about the whole situation. To be honest, if I was pregnant I wouldn't want to keep working until the very day I pop. Having a couple of months at home before that sounds healthy and reasonable.

Are you actually losing your job? And is this your choice?

She's like family who throws you out when you're pregnant.
You know there are better families, right?

Technically it's against the law. She should either be allowed to return to her job after the birth or be given a generous severance package. Something tells me she won't be pursuing either option.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
She wouldn't even ask this "family member" for time to go to lunch while at work, so no, I don't think she'll be pursuing those options either.
No offense, TotalAnxiousness, but I think you really enjoy being a victim.

I'm not upset, and I'm not looking at it like I am a victim though. It's a win/win situation.
I'm HAPPY I can stay home with the baby. It's just one month difference, no biggie. I've reached in darkness and come out with treasure

free women? sweet, cuz I am broke! My Legacy

Then the difference is actually quite large.

Yeah, after coming home and telling Todd about it, he was less then happy about the fact that were losing a month worth of income.
So my options are either to talk to my boss and tell her I really wasn't planning on leaving until March, or finding a different way to make some extra cash for that time.
I'm not an idiot. I DO realize that she is not allowed to let me go cuz I'm pregnant and if I choose to come back after the baby then she has to have my job waiting there for me.
I know I could get ugly about it but I don't want to. Retina hit the nose on the button or whatever that saying is, when he said its not good to mix business with pleasure. My bosses daughter is my landlord, and a friend of mine for over 10 yrs now I guess......who helped me thru a lot of stuff.
My boss is TOTALLY old school, and she's a total bitch sometimes too. But she's also been there for me countless times, and me not allowing her to have a replacement IN THE OFFICE and good to go before I leave is ultimately, screwing her over, cuz you can't learn to run a brokers office in overnight.
It kinda sucks, but I have a heart, I'm not gonna make life hard for her over one months pay. I've reached in darkness and come out with treasure

Unless I am missing something, I just want to shake the shit out of you. YOU don't want to make life hard for HER?
What if Todd leaves? What if he loses his job? What if the babysitting gig falls through?
You are struggling enough. You do not need the extra drama.
How exactly is someone who basically fires a prgenant woman NOT an asshole?

I'm sorry sweetie if I sounded harsh but I worry about you.
Do yourself a favor: at the very least, talk to your boss about this. She may have you training the replacement just til you get back.

No, I know your sincere and not trying to be mean. I always think everythings gonna be okay, thats my downfall I guess. (ONE of em) I rarely consider the worst case scenarios and I should. It would prevent a lot of chaos.
I will talk to her. Todd said the same thing. I've reached in darkness and come out with treasure
