Beckinsale Signs On For Underworld 4

September 25, 2010

It's official: Kate Beckinsale is returning to the world of vampires and werewolves, closing a deal to reprise her role as vampire heroine Selene in Screen Gems and Lakeshore Entertainment's fourth installment of the Underworld movie series.

A search for a director is currently under way, as well as an actress to portray Selene's daughter.

Production is set to start in March 2011 in Vancouver. John Hlavin wrote the script, which underwent revisions by comics writer and The Changeling scribe J. Michael Straczynski.s

The first Underworld, released in 2003, made Beckinsale into a headliner and launched a profitable franchise that has grossed more than $300 million worldwide, with movies costing less then $35 million to make.

Beckinsale, repped by WME and Brillstein Entertainment Partners, returned for the sequel, 2006's Underworld: Evolution, but did not take part in 2009's Underworld: Rise of the Lycans.

Her return was speculated among the fan community for months.

I normally turn my nose up at slick-looking vampire films like these, but for some reason I've seen all three movies more than once and own the trilogy on disc. I'm sure I'll be seeing part 4 in the theater as well.

I love her. I've seen them all and I loved Rise of the Lycans too even though she wasn't in it. I love Rhona Mitra too. I will see this one too.

These don't even come close to my top ten vampire films list, but the black and blue palettes and costuming appeal very much to the goth in me.

That list is obviously a few years old because of the absence of the Twilight films. razz

My top five:

1. Let The Right One In (2008)

2. Bram Stoker's Dracula (1992)

3. Shadow Of The Vampire (2000)

4. Near Dark (1987)

5. Vampyr (1931)

It's kind of too bad she "went Hollywood." I loved her in some of her early indie films - like Cold Comfort Farm and the BBC version of Emma.

After that, it seemed like she had a bunch of "work" done on her. disbelief

We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81

I definitely expected a lot more from her than what we've seen thus far. She's still young, though, so who knows?

The 30 Days Of Night comic books rock! That's about all I have to say about that. lol
