smell is half the taste!

My kid has enlarged adenoids and a deviated septum (poor little mite cry ) and as a result he snores and is a mouth breather. He isn't very interested in food. Not surprising. He is such a skinny little thing sigh

Aww poor little man. It is no fun. I was just like that when I was littlee. I constantly had tonsilitis and sore throats.

The dr's kept telling my parents that I needed my tonsils out but my dad refused to let them do it. As a result, I was constantly on antibiotics. I was so young when it started, I used to have to be held over the sink to take the liquid penicillin that made me vom because it tasted so horrible and my throat was always so swollen I could hardly swollow.

Finally, when I was 20, living on my own with my own health insurance and a boyfriend to help look after me, I had my tonsils out through emergency surgery. They were so infected that no antibiotics were killing the infection. I was so sick from having the infection so long and the years of being on antibiotics, I became allergic to penicillin and can no longer take it.

For some reasons they did not remove my adnoids though I am a mouth breather and snore really loud, always have.

Several years after my tonsillectomy I was still having sore throats and feeling horrible. I started seeing an allergist.

I am allergic to so many airbourne things like dust, mold, trees and grasses. He recons that my tonsil and sore throat, stuffy nose, post nasal drip issues all of my life were due to allergies.

When I was 34 I had sinus and septoplasty surgery to correct my deviated septum.

I still snore and have sinus infections but not as much as I used to. The best things I have found for all of this was allergy injections, saline nasal sprays and a humidifier whenever sleeping with the heating or air con on.

Max has never had tonsillitis or ear infections - nothing. He has only once had anti-biotics when he was 6 months old, and that's it.

The specialist says there is a good chance his adenoids will shrink by the time he is 10 or so, and they won't operate on his septum until he stops growing.

Poor guy. I never lost my sense of smell because of my deviated septum. Only time I had smeel issues was when I had a sinus infection.

it's more so that the adenoids make him a mouth breather, so when he eats he has to pause to breathe between swallows, it takes forever to finish his dinner, everyone has already left the table by then, so no wonder he loses interest.

That's terrible. I hate being a snorer/mouth breather. Waking up with a sore throat most mornings is horrible.

No but my former manager lost her sense of smell and taste.

And she said that she couldn't even smell the stench from the bums outside of the store so it didn't bother her.

I don't know if she ever got it back yet, it's been years.
