BTW: does anyone know/remember a very NASTY show (I think it was canadian) about a family consisting of a lazy/sarcastic father-bum, a bitter-ugly mother & an alcoholic teenager who had one imaginary friend ( a smartass duck or something like that), and other characters including two gonzo pornstars and one corrupt chief of police?? I think it ran during the early 00s...I watched some episodes during the summer of 2003 and I was like & it was a South Park meets Family Guy kind of show but A LOT nastier and weirder...

I love them both. I suppose if I had to choose one over the other, The Simpsons would have a slight edge because there are so many more years' worth of it.

One thing that freaks me out with both of them: When one of their early episodes is on featuring the wrong-voiced Homer or the wrong-voiced Meg, I can't watch.

Family Guy but I still watch them both religiously. The Simpsons ued to be much funnier.

The Simpsons used to be absolutely brilliant and hysterical. The new ones are always disappointing in comparison. But they can still be incredibly good.

I haven't seen a good Simpsons for a while now, but they still have a couple funny moments per show.

The Simpsons. I find parts of Family Guy funny, but it's 90% random flash backs without even attempting a story most of the time. So I guess I appreciate the work that goes into The Simpsons. Same with South Park. It may be over the top in much of its humor, but it at least attempts to have a cohesive story and will usually try to address real life issues in its own way. Family Guy doesn't do that.

I have no idea...you sure you're not mixing it up with Duckman? Which is 100000x better than Family Guy.

Simpson, even though I love Family Guy.

The Frank Grimes episode came on today, and I think the writing was so brilliant.

I love the random pop culture references of Family Guy and absurity of it all, but the Simpsons borders on genius sometimes.

as for the original post, it's Family Guy for me. hopefully we'll get to see what's up with Brian's novel this season, hmm?

I like both, but the Simpsons has lost its spark, all the new episodes are digitally done but the jokes are lame. The only funny character is Homer, seriously he is a legend. He's so stupid and yet so watchable (Marge whats the number for 911?) and even though hes been in jail several times, lost his job, been in hospital, nearly died and other things, he always finishes out on top. Plus there's the iconic Doh! and Hmmmm (Insert food here). The best Simpsons were the Season 4 to 7 period (92-96).

Family Guy, even though its got questionable subject matter to me is the greatest cartoon ever made, consistently funny plot lines, pop culture references and brilliant characters. Quagmire is a legend along with Stewie, Peter, Joe and Cleveland. Spinoffs are jsut as funny American Dad and Cleveland show, the character of Roger too is genius, a cross dressing narcissistic alien. Whereas Futurama is just dull to me and South Park is just too far gone for comment. Its vulgar and tasteless.

Family Guy can be funny but some of the stuff is so mean spiritted that I don't want to watch it over and over again like I do The Simpsons.

I don't understand how this is even a debate. Though wildly entertaining (for fans of the show) and popular, Family Guy doesn't have the writing of the Simpsons.

Plus the no sense of linear story thing, I have to say, isn't very funny. I'm not sure how many times making the same quip 25 times in a row in the span of 20 seconds continues to be amusing. The constant cuts to completely irrelevant scenes is a bit played.

True, the Simpsons is not as funny as it used to be, but what show can be for over 20 years?

Collectively, Simpsons is smarter and funnier. Family Guy is like a quick jerk off......good for what it is.

well, I only watched it during 2003, at 2:00 am, it was clearly a show for adults, or at least +18 years old guys; anyway, it ran for 6 years, so I guess it had a loyal cult following or something...

One thing about Canada you should know is our programs don't run for a long time because they are good or popular, they run because networks HAVE to have a certain amount of CANCON (Canadian content).
