I just didn't care for the outfit, Sesame Street really should have thought ahead. I get everyone else saying her outfit is no big deal, but seriously you have to think ahead and be concerned about the ones who wouldn't like it.
And in this day and age, you would be surprised how many kids DO notice things like that. It's sad but it's reality of the times.
I will agree Elmo did sorta ruin Sesame Street, I miss the days of Cookie Monster & The Count

That outfit provocative? No way.
Why should that bother anyone? Ridiculous.

I agree, there's nothing to get offended about.

I dont see how its anymore revealing than Areial from The little mermaids outfit or Jasmin from Aladdin?? Seasame street knew what she was wearing as they were taping it OBVIOUSLY so why pull it now? Its like they watched it on production and went... "oh my god what is she wearing!!"

ehh...I'm in no way offended by it but...it doesn't seem like the best choice for a sesame appearence. I really like the video though, it was cute. Katy Perry's got BIG boobs and that dress barely covered her nips. but I think they did a pretty good job of editing it so that it wasn't the focus of the video. I'm surprised by all the elmo hate. He's adorable, he is supposed to represent a mentally challenged child. they still have cookie monster and the count and they frequently show the very old bits.
I just did a quick look up of elmo...he's been on the show regularly as is since 1985! first appeared in 79. [Edited 9/24/10 6:19am] "not a fan" yeah...ok

This video didn't offend me at all. In fact I spent the entire time staring at her tits.
I think if perhaps someone like Sandra Bullock wore this, it wouldn't be a huge deal. But Katy Perry's whole deal is selling a sexy image, and people expect her to push the envelope. Just tell me you want your kids watching the Teenage Dream video.
So for her to not get a pass on this isn't surprising.

Are you kidding??? I kept waiting for her to change into something that was actually offensive or inappropriate. Why don't they just make everyone who goes on wear a Sesame Street turtle neck.
Or here's an idea...why not just keep away from having folk on who they might turn around and find objectionable? It's Katy Perry, not Meredith Baxter. Such hypocrisy. They're using/changing the words to a song that is so clearly not for kids ("you PMS like a bitch I would know"), yet I bet they did because most kids probably know it by heart.

Exactly! The first thing I ever touched in life was my mother's vagina rubbing all over my face as I was being born. And then a hours later I was sucking on her tits. This country is soooooooooo bizarre, especially since a big fat man with D cups can walk around shirtless and on TV with no problem. And African woman can walk around topless on Discovery Channel and that's considered okay because they aren't really humans anyway. It's disgusting. This whole thing is just silly. Only in the U.S. would this be an issue.

I can't stand Elmo either.

This is absolutely stupid. Some people are just LOOKING for things to find "offensive." There is nothing offensive about this video. She is fully clothed.
=0P
PS. Regarding Elmo: he stole the spotlight from my favorite, which is Grover. [img:$uid]http://t0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:pgPQbEh5CsQ10M:http://i292.photobucket.com/albums/mm24/godlyzombie/grover.jpg&t=1[/img:$uid] Brace yourself

We're a puritanical country. We think one look at tits or dick at five and we're fucked up. And besides Katy is covered up and I don't like Katy all that much but I hardly consider that "offensive". And yeah I thought I was the only one who thought they replaced Grover with Elmo. Grover was my hero.

it's funny to me how pissed people get by how offened others got.
I think we're safe cause they might actually cancel eachother out. "not a fan" yeah...ok

Because parents let their kids play them no matter what their age. If not, they let them sit and watch others play. I have a friend who sits and plays online first person shooters for hours. His daughter jumps up and down with glee every time she can tell he shot someone on his giant ass flat screen. She's five. But some Katy Perry cleavage!? Oh no! That's eeeeviiiiil.

Tried to find the original video to "The Song of the Count" but all of them have that stupid "censored" thing making it seem like the Count was cussing.

Heck yeah! Now it's just The Elmo Show.
I stopped arguing this point on the previous page because I don't think people are getting what I'm saying. Even if a child "notices" boobs it's not the same way an adult would do the same thing. It's innocent, not salacious. Also, when they do notice them it's the parents responsibility to teach them what is appropriate in that regard. But they don't want to do that. They'd rather complain and have them removed than do a little work. I don't have kids so I could be WAAAAY off base here. I just don't see ANYTHING offensive or difficult to discuss about a couple inches of Katy Perry cleavage.

it's easier than ever for those that are offended by things to voice their opinion that's the only real difference in todays society and media producers should keep that in mind and accept/understand (or choose to ignore) any backlash the debate could go on & on as to what's offensive personally, I like tits and elmo in that order so I'm not bothered but, you know, a little foward thinking could have prevented all this the producers at sesame street could have given her one of those I'm with stupid shirts to cover up with
How is it you feel? | |
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
It's like cool let the kids look at cartoons where people destroy each other for fun or play games, but one look at a tit and they're gonna be fucked up.
| |
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
I don't think it's offensive in any way. I'd be concerned if little girls got inspired to dress that way though.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
there are enough things kids see today that we do indeed have to discuss or explain to our kids...I don't think it's a crazy thought to think we shouldn't have to explain..yet again, more cleavage on SESAME ST. it's the ONE place you'd think you wouldn't have to think about explaining about such things. "not a fan" yeah...ok

And the parents that don't PUT THEIR FOOT DOWN on it rather than try to excuse it.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
i don't see anything wrong with what she was wearing? i've seen way worse on kids shows before.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
I feel that parent's today are sheltering their kids WAY TOO DAMN MUCH. When I was a toddler/young child, I saw things far more offensive than this video. I saw Purple Rain at the age of 3, Ren & Stimpy, and Rockos Modern Life, and I turned out just fine. I just think it's so hilarious how nowadays everything on kid shows is "offensive" and yet from the mid-90s up until the early 00s as a kid, I saw more cartoons/tv shows that were so not children it would have made ya grandmama scream Lord Jesus. All I'm saying is you can't protect your children forever, eventually they're going to see something inappropriate and all you can do is talk to them about it.
