Mac vs. PC From what I've heard, Mac is way better than using a PC as a personal computer. Though there are others who wouldn't even touch a Mac and are die hard PC users. So I'm here to ask the opinion of the orgers on here what their personal preference is. The advantages and disadvantages. Let's discuss. I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

I work on both. I prefer the PC.
I'm not a diehard either way. I think Macs are great. But there are a few usability things that make me like the PC more (including little things like, Hey, Apple--why don't you just put an eject button on there instead of making me drag crap to the trash bin to eject a disc?).

Mac.
I work in a creative field and have used a Mac at work for the last 15 years. I wanted a compatible computer at home. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

But can't you work in "PC" mode on a Mac? Like switching between the PC side and the Mac side? I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

Well, technically there is an eject button, usually on the top right of the mac keyboard, but if a program is referencing or using what you have in the drive then it won't let you eject it with the button.
The debate is kind of like a Honda Accord vs a BMW
they are both perfectly functional cars, but one is designed to be a luxury experience, the other one is practical. On the computers, most programs outside of one that I use a lot (Final Cut Studio), can be used on both.
But just like BMW got pissed that Honda started copying some of their stylings... so PC's and now other phones are always copying the design sensibility of the apple products.
But a PC is just as good as a mac, and more compatible with many things. I use a mac, but I do wish I had a good PC to use at the same time... of course I can just restart my mac as a PC with bootcamp... and I used to do that a lot to run windows and programs that I only had for windows. I use both, I slightly prefer Mac at this point, but I am still using Windows XP, so it's a bit outdated.
They're both fine, though. The thing is, I notice at work our Macs seem to have to be replaced more often than our PCs. My Legacy

Those are good points. But since I find the performance of both to be equal for all the programs I work in (Microsoft Office, InDesign, Photoshop, and of course the internet), I would choose a good PC for myself, since Macs are more expensive. But that's just me; I can totally understand why some would prefer the Mac.
One other usability problem I encounter is with the alt-tab function. I am totally in the habit of using this to switch between windows, but in the Mac, it only switches between programs and not windows. I should really look into it and see if there's an easy way to change it on a Mac.

I was a PC advocate for 20 years. That is, until I met my girlfriend 6 years ago. She had a Mac and let me use it for a week,(she actaully has more than one). I loved it and never turned back. I got tired of always doing mainatainace on the pc's and just wanted something that just worked. Now, I have two...a Macbook and an Imac....I LOVE THEM, no issues. My macbook is 6 years old and still works like the day, I got it and my Imac, is two years old and it works the same as well. As for software, I run office for Mac and it works and flawlessly. If I do have to use something from widows, I just use the windows side,(which is not often) and win 7 works really great. I am not saying that Macs are perfect, but for what I wanted it,(which was peace of mind), it does the trick. I will NEVER go back to Windoze.... I use both on a regular basis. There is not a single thing on a P.C. that is better than a MAC. Nada.

It's incredible how time has changed the popular opinion on Macs, I bet you could look up a mac vs PC debate on prince.org from 5 years ago or more and see that Macs were put down as some sort of stuck up elitist arena of computing. I remember the threads!
I'm literally surprised by the positive mac vibe on here now! Kind of reminds me how people are putting down 3D in movies... My art book: http://www.lulu.com/spotl...ecomicskid

I prefer the mac by far. I have a macbook and can switch between pc/windows and mac-os.... But I far prefer the mac... windows has all this shit anti-virus shit running in the background... takes longer to bootup...
mac is clean. | |

I bought applecare 3 years and so far, half way into it, I've had to take in my macpro 3 times!!!! twice more and my machine is a lemon and they have to replace it
they break down just as much as any computer, don't be lulled into a false security about that. I used to have a 7300, and that worked just fine for 10 years. Components now just aren't what they used to be

Mac-I have my original Mac from like 1992 still works just as good as it did in 1992. Although I have a new Mac for on line stuff. 99.9% of everything I say is strictly for my own entertainment

I'm not sure why your work Macs seem to get replaced so often as one of Macs string points is lastability. I'm still using a 2005 G5 at work from for high end audio work and a 2002 G4 at home for iTunes/Internet/music recording/whatever... My sister has my 2002 PowerBook and age still uses for work everyday. This is unheard of in PC land. Music, sweet music, I wish I could caress and...kiss, kiss...

I work for BMW...and the funny thing about that comment is, Honda have just wipped BMW's ass in a reliablity test for 2010
But I agree with your post!

Unless there's some specific software that you need that's only made for PC's, or you have to buy the cheapest computer possible, I can't think of a single reason to choose a PC over a Mac.
Macs rules, and you don't have to worry about viruses.

I'm not sure I understand. If a product has worked well, and we continue to buy that brand, how does that make it "cult-like"?
People do it with cars all the time: "I only drive ___"

That's why I preference my thought by saying, "my personal experience". (let me find some wood and knock on it.) I've been using Apple Computers for twenty years. Yes, it's my understanding Mac get viruses too but I never had any experience with that either. Though, the more you crossover and dual boot with Windows/PC's software the more susceptible your are to those viruses. My kid has my old iBook G4 and she hasn't had reformat yet and it's 8 years old.

I would consider myself a computer illiterate and I only know the most basic stuff when it comes to computers. Anyway....last week a good friend of mine came to my town and we met with some other guys and all of a sudden they started talking about PC versus Mac ( and both friends are musicians ) and that boring computer conversation lasted for like three or four hours....they even continued when we arrived at the club and had a few drinks. And the Mac enthusiasts always come up with almost the same story as the one that you posted above. Easy to use, no maintenance, real fast etc. etc. , won´t ever go back to PC and so on.
Could you explain the advantages that a Mac has over a PC in a few simple words because I really don´t know much about computers.
