My son got on the dean's list at his school... I posted it on facebook because I am one of those proud moms.

I do not expect strangers to give a fuck.... but they did , my family on the other hand, they didn't bother to say shit. Except for my youngest niece.

Its a good thing that strangers are polite and caring, because if I relied on family to support my son it would never happen. They never even showed up to his graduation.

Strangers celebrate my son more than my family does. My son was raised in a single family home, in poverty and in the "hood", and aced public school and is now at Northeastern University on a full academic scholarship as a marine biology major. No biggie.

my dad told my mum NOT to go visit his mother (who is 100) because it would be too emotionally taxing on her. My mum is an hour by plane away from her. If I was her, I'd still go, but she does what my dad tells her.

she is staying with her own mum already, it's my dad's mum who she isn't visiting

at 100 I would think anyone who still cares enough about you to visit a welcomed event. I can imagine her outliving most of her friends and acquaintances.

yes, since we live on the other side of the world to her and can visit every few years. My dad says that she has been having some heart palpitations and he says it's bound to be the stress or anxiety of my mum's planned visit.

It is, I understand his fear of losing his mom, but unless there is a fued in the family, your mom should still be able to visit. She must love her and miss her also... otherwise she wouldn't care to visit at all.

I feel so unmotivated and uninspired in my life these days, and it's not getting any better. I wish I could see the positives but I can't.

I need to figure out what it is I want so I could be that strong determined person I used to be, but right now I feel like I can't get what I want, and I feel like when I do people just shut me down and reject me.

I know its easier said than done, but i would not let other people stand in your way of achieving what you want to. I have always lived by a "don't give a fuck what others think" attitude, but i realise its not in everyones nature to be like this.
