"Genetic altering" has been going on since the dawn of agriculture.

It used to be called "hybrids."

True, hybrid fruits and vegetables are plentiful and people seem to find them fascinating. It's gone much further than that, though. People have stopped questioning things like perfectly uniform, non-bruising tomatoes. But as soon as you start messing around with meat people start freaking out. Some sort of weird, irrational cloning fears, I guess. lol

I know but I've reeeeeeally been procrastinating. That's where most of my frustration lies. I can't figure out why I don't seem to want success more than I want the immediate pleasure of putting off the work. And every time it bites me in the butt I get in a funk. sigh Hopefully I'll get it together for real someday soon.

Understandable fear and hysteria, because "messing with Mother Nature" goes against all our sensibilities. This is probably even more true for those of us who are religious. But once you do some research and learn that all the reliable science we can throw at GM food shows absolutely no risk of harm, you relax. I hope. lol

It's like vaccines and autism. It's easy for lots of folks to get caught up in the hysteria, especially if you aren't exposed to the facts. "OMG they NEVER used to give so many vaccines and kids NEVER had so much autism!!!111 shake" People's gut fears can be really powerful.

I'm bugged by the fact that people are too trusting of the FDA.

The FDA eats the food the FDA approves. The FDA, even with all it's failings, does far more good for us that like agencies (or lack thereof) in other parts of the world.

I agree with you regarding animals being given feed containing animal byproducts. And that goes for all animals. They shouldn't be given anything other than what they would have naturally eaten before we started farming them for food. However, they don't roam the countryside eating whatever they can find anymore BECAUSE we started raising them for food. Since that's the case, they need to be given vitamins and hormones so they don't get diseased from standing around with a bunch of their kind in small, dung filled spaces. I can't really get too much into this one. lol I grew up in the cattle industry and it's just all kinds of broken. The worlds reliance on meat products being conveniently available for a reasonable price whenever they want them is actually causing our planet a great deal of harm on many different levels. Just know that if major changes are made in this regard it will collapse entire worldwide food distribution systems and greatly damage many economies. Like many of our other current problems, we've dug our own grave in this regard. I'm a vegetarian, anyway. lol

In regards to the fish in particular, it doesn't bother me. We're killing our oceans and large bodies of water so fast that they'll never be fully repaired. Doing further damage, fish species from all over the planet have been released into waters where they don't belong. If they can figure out a way to farm fish to full size quickly and safely I'm all for it. But I'm not against genetic engineering of any kind, including that involving human beings. In the end, when people start being saved from inevitable death by discoveries made in this manner, very few of them will be against it.

I don't know about immunizations because I don't have children and I don't get them myself. Nor do I ingest pills of any kind if I can avoid it. I've used antibiotics twice in my adult life.

Of course there is a link between fast food and obesity. But that link is centered largely around the fact that a lot of families eat it multiple times a week and don't do any kind of exercising. It's not JUST fast food that causes the problem. If you live a healthy lifestyle and eat fast food a couple times a month you're probably doing OK.

Pretty sure they've proven there is no direct link between moderate cell phone use and brain cancer. People used to think microwaves caused cancer, too.

Pesitcides are evil, for sure. Many of them have been proven to be harmful YEARS after they've been approved for use. But again, we've created the world we live in and if we don't want it to completely collapse pesticides are sometimes a necessary evil.

I don't believe in conspiracies. Period. Government agencies sometimes do dirt. But so do your neighbors. People keep secrets. Sometimes those secrets become public. It doesn't mean there's any kind of organized conspiracy behind what's happening.

That is not what they're doing. Salmon only grow in the spring and summer. They are putting a gene into them (from another kind of fish) that allows them to grow year 'round.

The fish are not being injected with hormones.

I ripped all 24 discs of the Looney Tunes Golden Collection sets and now I'm trying to figure out what to put on just one disc. That's not as bad as it sounds really, because I can put a lot more than one of those discs on the one I'm going to burn. But I've already sorted out a bunch of files and then deleted them THREE TIMES! lol I may just have to burn two discs.

Anyway, Water Water Every Hare is chapter eight on disc one of the first set and it will DEFINITELY be on whatever combination I end up burning. It's one of about twenty shorts that I'm sure on. After that I just get all out of control with "oh that's a good one!", or "I bet they haven't seen this one a million times", or "this one is just so underrated, I'd better include it, too". mad lol
