Um, I have the same dictionary. Page 397: (2) effect (vt) (1533) to cause to come into being; to bring about; and to put into operation.

In this case, I think you're putting an accent into operation. Hmmm...

Even if not, the point was that effect is both a noun and a verb.

Ahem. Webster's dictionary, page 397: "usage Effect and affect are often confused because of their similar spelling and pronunciation. Ther verb affect usu. has to do with pretense <She affected a cheery disposition despite feeling down.> The more common affect denotes having an effect or influence..."

NOW! Run tell dat! lol We will discuss this further Saturday evening. geek

I think we'll get run out if we get too word nerdy! biggrin I should have just used the more common "effect change" as an example.

And that's the problem! I care, dammit! I'm old-school. lol

Really, it's one thing to write phonetically and all on these types of forums, but when it comes to being professional, especially at a job or serious situation, folk need to step up.

Yeah, I get it, but I think typing on forums and chat and txtn is the problem. Once we all start doing this, we forget proper spelling and stuff. If ya don't use it ya lose it. I know it;s hard to believe but at one time I COULD spell.

I noticed that, too.

The check. The string he dropped. The Mona Lisa. The musical notes taken out of a hat. The glass. The toy shotgun painting. The things he found. Therefore, everything seen–every object, that is, plus the process of looking at it–is a Duchamp.

CONVERSATE IS NOT A WORD!!!! mad

whew

Okay... I have had this argument over and over again.... The incorrect use of "MYSELF"

Ex: You can speak to John or myself. no no no!

You can speak to John or ME.

People think that it sounds more intelligent if they use "myself" where "me" belongs. disbelief

My friend and I have a silent campaign against that shit at work. I think it's more prevalent in the military than most lines of work. I think they feel it sounds more authoritative.

Educators say it ALL the time. confused Our Superintendent said it during his "First Day" speech. confused

I heard Pres. Obama say it recently, too. shake

THANK YOU!

Also, "it's" is a contraction for "it is." That is the only proper use of it's.

Correct use: It's one o'clock.

The possessive form - "its" - does not have an apostrophe. It is the parallel of "his" and "hers."

Correct use: My pen lost its cap.

Incorrect use: My pen lost it's cap.

I disagree with what you wrote in your first sentence. It is not the only proper use, you can also use "it´s" as a short form of "it has", like in " It´s been seven hours and thirteen days since you took your love away." wink

Or was it fifteen days? I don´t remember. lol

nod yep i was thinking this too!

due to the content i suggest you like this...

irregardless disbelief

From Merriam-Webster.com

ir·re·gard·less

adv \ˌir-i-ˈgärd-ləs\

Definition of IRREGARDLESS

nonstandard : regardless

Usage Discussion of IRREGARDLESS

Irregardless originated in dialectal American speech in the early 20th century. Its fairly widespread use in speech called it to the attention of usage commentators as early as 1927. The most frequently repeated remark about it is that there is no such word. There is such a word, however. It is still used primarily in speech, although it can be found from time to time in edited prose. Its reputation has not risen over the years, and it is still a long way from general acceptance. Use regardless instead.

Origin of IRREGARDLESS

probably blend of irrespective and regardless
First Known Use: circa 1912
