See, that kind of slangy, phonetic spelling I am totally okay with.
Although everyone knows that the coulda comes before the woulda.

What kills me is that one would get so twisted over this, especially in this situation.
Someone has used incorrect grammar. Good Gawd Maude!! Let me strap on my fury hat and set them STRAIGHT.
Seriously?
I cannot tell you how many times I've posted something quickly here at work then gone back and realized I've used it's when I should have used its.
Considering this is a Prince website, I should probably be worried about being sued over it by the grammar police.
I'm firmly planted in denial |

One egregious error I hear over and over and over, and it drives me fuckin nuts, is the misuse of she and her. I don't know how many times I've heard, what I thought were intelligent people, make this mistake:
"Me and her went to the club." or "Her and me can't make it." OK, quick lesson, people. When you're not sure what is correct, just drop the "and." You will be left with, "SHE went to the club." or "I went to the the club."
Don't get me started on grammar! |

And the possessive mixups of the kind that Genesia mentioned. Not just it's/its but they're/their, he's/his, you're/your as well.
My pet peeve is textspeech....
You mean when people speak in a way that sounds like a written text? |

I do try my very best with grammar.... but sometimes often get it wrong.
If it bothers anyone... Bite me.
Stuff like that doesn't bother me. As long as I can read it and understand what they mean. |

I'd just like to say that a large part of the problem is the English language allowing for so many accepted varients. A lot of these rules, that you're positive you learned the right way in school twenty or thirty years ago, are now considered correct three different ways. It's lazy, slightly obnoxious and the exact reason why I'm constantly correcting my niece and nephew, only to be proven wrong by their "New English" school book.
However, I think I fail with the it's/its thing. I'll try to pay more attention to it going forward. At least I can say for certain that I've never written it's'.
Just out of curiosity, what are some of the changes you're talking about? A couple big ones that I get in arguments with people over are ending a sentence with a preposition and splitting an infinitive (both of which are fine and dandy in my book).
I've been trying to think of a good example for about ten minutes and none come to mind. When I can think of a good one I'll post it. I promise.
I definitely agree with both of your examples, though. Not ending a sentence with a proposition is somewhat of a grammar myth (great list, that one - it also mentions split infinitives). In regards to splitting an infinitive; I don't care how many rules say it's wrong, it has simply become a part of how we write. |

she's the one that got me saying "nucca". I haven't let that word go yet.
One thing I absolutely cannot tolerate is the word "vibracious" used as a substitute for "vivacious". There is no such word as vibracious and it doesn't even roll off the tongue in a nice way. |
