First off . I was a Phillies fan for years when I was young.

Then I lost interest - after they won the world series in 1980. (they went on strike ... i went to college and just didnt follow them too much after that ...)

I have gotten more interested in them - in the past 10 years ... but this post is generally about the team and how the general manager takes chances ...

Reuben Amaro is probably someone most of you never heard of - but he is one of those innovative type guys ... who keeps things interesting .

At the beginning of the year - he was criticized big time - for trading their best pitcher , Cliff Lee.

He basically traded him , to get the pitcher he wanted in the first place last yr - Doc Holliday.

Anyways - it paid off . Then he got Roy Oswalt this year also -

I never saw a Phillies team that can pitch - until this year .

It is so surreal , but I am enjoying the ride. Tonight - they swept the team they were chasing for so long - and are up like 6 games now ...

I'm a METS fan. 'Nuff said.

the twins are my other team!!

Their 1-3 starting pitchers might be the best in baseball. Halladay is Halladay, Hamels has his mojo back this year that was lost last year, and Oswalt while usually good with the Astros has been on a roll since being traded. Might Sports Illustrated actually be right in picking them to win the World Series back in March?

Mets? no met jokes . seriously . i wont go there . but my post was more a praise of the GM for the phillies cus he got cussed at - during the beginning of the yr .. when everyone said WHY TRADE CLIFF LEE ... why not keep him and have Halladay and LEe on the starting staff...
