Computer virus's (in general) My laptop for work got hit by a bug . It happened - they sent a tech out to fix it ... and 3 days later or so ... it happened again .
I sent the laptop back and got another one ...
but my computer troubles are still happening ! Between the company and their security systems ... and the whole virus scan crap ... I am losing so much time NOT WORKING ... and therefore NOT PLEASING MY SUPERIORS !!!
How can a virus get on a computer when you dont click on anything questionable . I just dont get that .
Also ... the damn company has McAfee anti virus ... and it didnt work i guess ...
So frustrated with work ... i actually looked in the help wanted ads the past 2 days ...
just venting ... never had computer virus issues like i have recently . Colonel Angus may be smelly. colonel angus may be a little rough . but deep down ... Colonel angus is very sweet.

A few thoughts...
1) You could just be getting the same computer back without the original problem ever REALLY being fixed.
2) Viruses can hide so that they're only triggered when you perform a certain task.
3) You say you're not clicking on anything suspect, but viruses can come from pretty much anywhere. A file that you are opening. An attachment that's being stored in your email. A website that you think is safe, but really isn't. etc etc etc
4) Lastly, are you connecting to an internal network at your place of employment? If you are, maybe that's where the virus is coming from.
5) Not to be a dick about it, but a lot of internet/computer savy regular people are better at diagnosing and repairing these types of problems than a majority of IT people I've met in the last ten years.

I use NOD 32. IT personnel uses this and so if they use it I use it. Had no trouble whatsoever with viruses. You do have to pay (but not too expensive at all). It updates every day and you have a direct link to their IT technos who will diagnose any problem you have by going into your computer (permission of course) and repair your computer "down the line" as they say.
Also NOD 32 works in the background and does not take up too much memory not like Norton or McAfee ( which slow down the computer). If your computer trouble persists it may - sorry about this - need to go back to factory level - and you start again!

Go to Download.com get and run Spybot before you pay for anything (which you shouldn't have to do for a work computer). There's probably 20 other free scans there - one of them

Computer Virus here's my advice I gave a fellow orger, if you are willing to see if you can get the virus off your computer off. Cerebus is right viruses can locate in stay in folders and the registry even though you thought you cleaned your computer. Note: I don't have an issue with Microsoft Essential Virus software (which is free and damn good) but I'd use it for the very last , hopefully catching any viruses that may remain.
I'll org you some more info.

Have you upgraded to Windows 7. If you still using XP I've heard it's best to upgrade.

Mcafee sucks! I bought a new laptop not too long ago and it came with a Mcafee 30 day trial. First thing I did was uninstall that hogware.
To keep a healthy system and not to worry about Viruses, all you need is: Firefox adblock pro+ Microsoft Security Essential(free) + Malwarebytes. Have those and you're good to go.
MSE is free and it works silently and discretely in the background without hogging your system's memory.
Hope that helps | |
