All through high school I was a music/prince freak and wouldn't be caught dead in the industrial arts wing of the building (those guys were pretty scabby, let's be real)

Now I wish I could build stuff! I'm bored with music, I'd rather be putting an addition on the house or something...if I knew how. neutral

When I was in high school, girls weren't allowed to take Shop and I don't think any ever showed an interest. I wasn't interested in high school, but now that I have my own home, I wish I knew how to build stuff...save me a ton of money! I mean I'm pretty handy now, but I would really like to perfect it.

We were the first ones in my school... This was around 83-84

We had to take one quarter of shop my freshman year, and all the guys in shop class had to take home ec. that quarter. The decorative wall shelf I made is still hanging in my room at my parents' house. My grade was the last one where most of the girls took home ec.

The check. The string he dropped. The Mona Lisa. The musical notes taken out of a hat. The glass. The toy shotgun painting. The things he found. Therefore, everything seen–every object, that is, plus the process of looking at it–is a Duchamp.

Exotic cooking classes.

This here. Minus the cooking perhaps, because I never take the time to cook, languages for sure though.

That sounds really interesting! I think heybaby/brownsuga does something like that. She does all kinds of cool shit.

I'd also love to learn all kinds of DIY stuff: sewing, clothes making, simple home repairs.

It's what you make it.

I was thinking last night how it would be very useful to know how to do clothing alterations, so we can be a family in well fitting clothes, but ultimately, I wouldn't even want to do it if I could. sigh I don't have the patience.

If you ever decide to get a personal trainer, tread very carefully. I highly recommend NOT signing any kind of contract with them.

I'd go to law school. Not because I have any burning desire to be a lawyer, mind you. My favorite class I ever took was one in the theory and practice of legal argumentation. I just loved the mental aerobics. shrug

I took another class called Argumentation and Debate (it was actually required for my degree). On one of my papers, the TA wrote, "I'm glad to have one person in this class who fully understands the concept of an argument." lol

Reminds me of my freshman year history and home room teacher in high school. She asked me what I wanted to do when I got out of college. I told her I wanted to teach. She told me, "Oh. Well, that's nice, but I think you'd make an excellent lawyer or politician." I asked her why she thought that and she said, "Because you love to argue intelligently." Shocked the shit outta me. Up til then I thought I was a meek lil lamb with a sense of humor...

I figured I'd take some classes this fall for fun and to meet some new people but it turns out that they're all packed with folks that are either really old or really young. People my age are too busy settling down and breeding.

sigh

Kayyy. What's "really old?" You might reconsider taking classes with them. You might learn a thing or two from someone and they are great to talk to. When I was a kid, I absolutely adored older people. The life experiences and stories they had to share were fantastic.

I meet enough old people as it is, thank you very much. I think if you wanted to meet new friends you'd gravitate towards folks your own age too. Nothing unusual about that.

The operative work here. Not arguing. Just suggesting you don't limit your options. But if you feel you meet enough old people and they don't interest you, well carry on. If you're lucky, you'll get to be "really old," too and some younger person might find you intriguing! lol

Sigh... I'm not saying they don't interest me. I'm saying that when I want to meet new friends I prefer people my own age. Simple.
