What An Irresponsible Dumbass Drunk dad drove with baby in car: policeLast Updated: Sunday, September 19, 2010 | 2:01 PM MTAn infant has been taken into the care of emergency social services after police pulled over an allegedly drunk driver in Calgary Saturday afternoon.
Police say an officer noticed a Ford Explorer weaving from lane to lane near Barlow Trail and Airport Trail, N.E., at about 1:15 p.m. MT.
When the officer stopped the vehicle, he "observed obvious signs of impairment," Calgary police said in a news release.
Duty Insp. Rob Williams said the officer then made a shocking discovery. "At the time that he had that vehicle pulled over, the officer also noted that there was a 16-month-old baby in a car seat in the back of that same vehicle," Williams said.
"There wasn't anyone else in that vehicle, other than the male who turned out to be the father of that child."
Williams said the 26-year-old driver was given two breathalyzer tests and blew over the legal limit.
He said driving impaired is always dangerous.
"Any time somebody drives impaired, they can harm pedestrians or other drivers or themselves but … when he's got a young baby in the back of the car, that's ignorance. And more than ignorant, it's negligent."
The driver was charged with impaired driving and driving with a blood alcohol level over .08.
