Oh, Tyler Perry is going to have his prints on this? Than no, I will not be watching it on cable or otherwise; I've seen the play, I don't need to see the movie.

Oh hell no. No "no-actin' ass" Janet Jackson movies and definitely no Tyler Perry movies. I hope he doesn't fuck this one up. The play was phenomenal.

Don't mean to be a joykill but its hard to be optimistic after watching the "Why Did I Get Married Too" calamity boxed

It is a very impressive ensemble though nod I already know that Phylicia is gonna rise up to the occasion, even if the project turns out to be a total disaster.

I wanted to throw things at the screen when I went to see that movie. It was horrible, just as most TP projects are, at least to me. Janet wasn't winning any Academy Awards with that performance, but I think she did very well considering the crappy material she had to work with and what she was going through at that time.

TP just brings this level of coonery to all he touches so I'm surprised at this trailer because it looks amazing. I hope that the movie is well done. He's got an incredible cast of talent here, so he really can't lose. He SHOULD be able to pull this off. Just have to wait and see.

Its gonna be different this time! Yes there are some that kind of go by the same formula..but if it works..he can only build upon it. I thought the Madea Big Happy Family play was awesome...The Family That Preys was great. I kind of want to watch the original play to see the diffeences though.

Even Oprah Didn't Want Him To Do It! Trailer Unveiled For Tyler Perry's 'Colored Girls'

Of all the film franchises at Lionsgate, the most financially reliable are Tyler Perry's. Tolerate his racial stereotyping or not, he's a money machine for the studio especially when his films star his loathesome female alter ego Madea. That is also why, after his lobbying, Lionsgate released last year's Precious. Remember how controversial that pic was? Well, trust me: Lionsgate doesn't begin to understand yet what a PR nightmare will surround its movie For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When the Rainbow Is Enuf because Tyler Perry is at the helm. It starts screening in 2-3 weeks now that the studio recently moved up the release date from 2011 to November 5th. Look, just my reporting last September of Perry's plan to make the pic elicited some of Deadline's most vicious attacks on a filmmaker.

Now I've learned that even Tyler's close pal Oprah Winfrey did not want him to make the film version of the iconic 1975 play by Ntozake Shange. And that her reaction echoed the outrage of many black females along the lines of, "How dare you!" because the storyline is profoundly their story, not any man's, and especially not his. The play is a collection of 20 poems, dealing with love, abandonment, rape, abortion, and more, told by seven different women who are identified only by color. Perry's version has given names to the women, and is described as a poetic exploration of what is to be of color and a female in this world.

I'm told that despite her horror Oprah gave Perry "huge feedback" on the script, which Perry shot in June and July. Though he's still finishing the film's music, I hear Oprah and her gal pal Gayle King recently saw a rough cut and both gave Perry big props. Yes, but was Winfrey simply admiring her own handiwork or his? Perry, by enlisting Oprah's fame and forum, ensured Precious got seen by a crossover audience. But this time I don't think even Oprah can help him with the pic's base. Not when there are predisposed attitudes among black women like this: "Even if Tyler Perry were just writing the script to For Colored Girls, or just directing, or just producing -- even that would be too much for him to handle. He simply does not have the sensitivity, ingenuity, or abilities in any of those three capacities to do this film a sliver of the justice it deserves." On the other hand, Lionsgate hopes controversy fills seats.

Not so fast.

Nzingha Stewart developed the script for the adaptation after buying the rights from Ntozake Shange(The book's author), was set to direct it through Lionsgates' funding where she took it,

the studio passed the buck and went to Perry to finance the film, since he’s their goose that lays the golden eggs. He in turn used his massive clout with the studio and told them he would back it only if he got the whole project, pushing Stewart out, to which Lionsgate agreed.

I'm hearing that she's the executive producer of the project, who knows, looking at the bigger picture, at least we'll put our fears of this project being poorly written to rest and the winner is everybody.

So who is this film script written by also. I mean producing..bringing in the actors and directiong the scenes are fine and dandy but is this written by Perry? People always forget that writers play a major role in flops and successes.

I'll take her word for it, and I'll gladly put away my assumption(or paranoia) that she only said that out of obligation to support a major black figure.

But I'm SO hyped for the upcoming book excited it looks like its going to be an odyssey, I love family history book; Alexy Haley's Roots & Toni Morrison's Song Of Solomon, and now "Some Sing, Some Cry".

rolleyes Being a gay man does not make him one of the girls. Those criticizing him made it clear that they do not believe he has "the sensitivity, ingenuity, or abilities in any of those three capacities to do this film a sliver of the justice it deserves." That justified criticism doesn't have ANYTHING to do with race OR gender. It is an indictment on his lack of skills. Most folks aren't even saying that a woman or black person is the only one entitled to direct this work. Fans of the play just want a TALENTED director, which to many TP ain't. That's the issue, not race or gender.

As for a black female director with the chops to direct this, have you ever heard of Kasi Lemmons??? She directed Eve's Bayou and Talk to Me. She would have been a MUCH better choice than TP, any day.

And just cuz YOU haven't heard of this play before doesn't mean it's any less significant.

That describes Perry's sheep, I mean audience. People that love shitty scripts and trite movies will come in droves. Sheep. That's why they love Perry. American cinema does a lot of wtaering down, but Perry is like H2 and forgets the O.

If anyone had taken ANY kind of history, pop culture history, theatre history, or even watched PBS, they would know about it. Sheep. And his movies are: pooptoast

There are plenty female black directors...and I'm sure many of them cringe every time they hear the Chit'lin Circuit King's name. Pissed that his scripts are so simple a 5 year old could write it, and that he is going to cheapen the value of that powerful play.
