DARTH VADER vs. LUKE SKYWALKER--One the Best Fights in the Entire Star Wars Saga (EMPIER STRICKS BACK) Luke get a nice surprise! I was CRUSHED when I first saw this! James Earl Jones' voice for Vader is incredable alothough Orson Wells (another all time favorite) was going to be auditioned for the part.
STAR WARS TRIVIA: Originally Han Solo was an African American character.

THIS SCENE'S BIBICAL INSPIRATION
It took George Lucas 8 years to write Star Wars. This particular scene were Vader announces to Luke, "I am your father," is based directly from the Bible's account of Jesus Christ being alone in the wildernes/mountain area for 40 days and nights where Satan appeared and attempted to get Christ to join in his deominc rebellion against God in exchange for all the kingdoms of the World.

Interesting, but that would make the Emperor God... as Vader is talking about rebelling against the Emperor...

George Lucas took the Bible account of Christ and Satan and turned it inside out and upside down. So without any BLASPHEMY, yes--the Emperor would represent a higher power--God who Satan slandered as being a liar in Genesis.
In this scene, Lucas modeled Vader after Satan and Luke after Christ who was in a temporary state of physical weakeness due to not eating or fasting (If you are the son of God turn these stones into bread). Hence, the loss of Luke's hand represents this temorary physical weaking. If they can join together as this all powerful father and son force they could indeed rule the Star Wars galaxy or Unverse.

It is a great scene. Unfortunately, Lucas dropped this plotline entirely in ROTJ.

Lucas did. He left the Satan Christ scenario in ROTJ. This fight is rather-----

Here's something off-topic that I recently learned. Remember Prince's ex Troy Broyer (is that how you spell her name?)? She was plastered all over the 'Sexy MF' video? Well, Troy and George Lucas were datng for a while.

Darth Vader: "Luke... I AM your father"
Luke Skywalker: "Nooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!"
Poor Luke who has the hots for Princess Leia now realizes that she is his sister.
That leaves Han Solo in a good position since he like Princess Leia Ohh purple joy oh purple bliss oh purple rapture! REAL MUSIC by REAL MUSICIANS - Prince "I kind of wish there was a reason for Prince to make the site crash more" ~~ Ben |

What trips me out about the Darth Vadar character is that the person in the suit and the voice character are 2 different people. I wouldn't have known that if I didn't watch the making of Star Wars on the extra goodies on the dvd set.

My FAVORITE fight sene. In addition tho the great music in the backround, Luke Defeated a Dark Lord AND resisted the temptation to turn. Except for the Ewoks , rotj was my favorite of the entire series!

Return of the Care Bears could have been a classic like The Empire Strikes Back had Lucas used Wookies. Ewoks ruined the whole movie.

No, no and no. The only thing Star Wars has in common with the bible is that they're both made up fictions. Find me a quote from George Lucas where he says he based Star Wars on the bible. The reason you see the correlation is because Star Wars uses the same structure of all the great MYTHS. The reason you see it as Christianity is because that's where your faith lies. A Buddhist, Hindu, Muslim or Atheist is not going to see it the same way.

Your quite right -although it could quite easily be flipped and said that he majority of these classic myths have of course come after the bible (episode 1 is clearly a nod to that other geeky cult...what's it called...Christianity)....but it's no coincidence that these stories all have the same hooks. Poor normal kid, laughed at, rejected turns out to be the son of some big cheese and ends up saving us all.....both have quietly ignored inapproprate relations with women, and a mother who's obviously been sleeping around on the sly.

I think Star Wars borrows heavily from a lot of sources, including the bible. The biblical overtones are often presented throughout. Look at how he later had Darth Vader be born to a virgin mother. I wouldn't be surprised if Lucas had biblical themes in mind when he was making the originals.

George Lucas HIMESELF said thatn this scene was based upon the Biblbe's account of Satan trying to win Christ over to his rebillion against God. This was also mention again by Joseph Campbel (anthropologist?)who also wrote several books on the subject of the Star Wars Saga and the orgin of legends.
As for your personal belief that the Bible is fiction, I'll leave that alone becasue man's INNATE spiritual nature and his unending quest for meaning and search for a HIGHER POWER it is not the subject or purpose of this thread.

FALCON FIGHT FOR ENDOR
STAR WARS TRIVIA: The Falcan used by Han Solo and Lando Carrissian is no bigger than a QUARTER! Hence the magic of Industrial Light and Magic!

Find me a QUOTE where George Lucas said that. I own nearly every piece of printed Star Wars literature, all the VHS and DVD releases of the movies and numerous other pieces of Star Wars ephemera and I do not know of it's existence. He has admitted in hindsight that there are parallels, but he did not write Star Wars as bilblical or Christian allegory.
Joseph Campbell never wrote about Star Wars. He did write many other powerful and enlightening books, however. Best known amongst those would be "The Hero With A Thousand Faces" and "The Power of Myth". The former was re-discovered by George Lucas (he had read it previously) during the early writing stages of the original Star Wars trilogy. Hence, the commonality to all great hero myths that so many people find familiar and comforting in those movies.
As for your opinion regarding "man's INNATE spiritual nature and his unending quest for meaning and search for a HIGHER POWER", I've been studying all aspects of it for nearly thirty years. I cannot recommend enough that you read either "The Power Of Myth" or "Reflections On The Art Of Living: The Joseph Campbell Companion".

I don't think the fact about the Falcon is true ....I've seen the ILM model used in New Hope and Empire on display (presume Jesus the same) and it's about the size of a large plate. Apparently though (and this sounds dubious) all of the shots where Chewie is in the cockpit with other people are effects because he was too big...so they blue screened him in
