Has anybody ever looked at you like you were a freak?

So,i had a doctors appointment yesterday, the waiting room was about empty. Only 4 people which included me,my dad, some woman, and her 9 year old son. So me and my dad walked in and sat down and as soon as I sat down I noticed this little boy and his mom looking at me like I was a freak or the weirdest thing hes ever seen,so I just looked back at him. After about a minute his mom had to call his name and tell him to quit. It just made me feel bad about myself the rest of that day. I know he was just a kid,but his mom looked at me like he did too. Has anyone been in this situation or a similar one?

Yes! And I love(d) it. Be yourself and embrace it! What anybody thinks of the way you look doesn't matter one bit.

That's everyday of my life going places. I'm so used to it. Usually it's either because of my hair (nappy and proud, very curly and bushy) or 'cause I'm a big gal wearing what I please (not like...outlandish...lol) with matching dangly earrings. Some days I feel just like you, and usually drown it out hours later with some good music and gaming. Any other day, I hardly give a crap.

comfort I know how it feels though...the whole feeling bad thing. Don't let perfect strangers who don't know you get to you. If you're comfortable in your own skin, that's all that matters. Some people..pfft....they're just not used to newness. Forget 'em!

Plenty of times... That's just life though.

I'm sure there are times when you've looked at someone like that and perhaps didn't even realize.

If you will, so will I

Back in the day, my hair fell out almost to the point of baldness, because of a color chemical I put in my hair. I used to be ridiculed and got stares by strangers. Today, short hair and baldness is the norm and fashion, especially for black women, but my hair is back to long. Ain't that something.

It's happened from time to time and for various reasons. Whether or not it rubs me the wrong way has to do with what exactly folk are looking at and picking up as so unusual. Sometimes it can be offensive to me, but sometimes it can be quite an honor. cool

What do you think struck them odd about you?

yeah a lot and I start getting very paranoid, but then wherever I go, I get told all the time I look really good that sometimes it gets annoying and other times I think it's out of pity, so I know I have some type of appeal, not sure what....

I used to get followed around stores by security and I knew it. I'd just keep walking around for like half an hour, speed up really quick to go around a corner and then turn around and walk right into their faces as they hurried to catch up. lol

THIS! I always get the look like "you arn't from around these parts, are yuh" but I grew up in a small town, so maybe it's a bit of a complex left over from those years.

I also get looks from Hutterites if I'm, say, sharing a public elevator with them. smile

Yes and might i add it does wonders to ego. There comes a time in your life where you have to realized that people live only in their shells. such a sad life one lives when they are not expose to different vibrant types of people. its like going to fucking a van gough art show and wondering who the person in the picture was. people are by nature curious beings.

I was always called weird, eventually I bought a "freak" shirt in high school and embraced my individuality. Mom didn't like it cause of the innuendo, but I didn't see it right away until looking back on it now. I used to want mj to wear a shirt that said "wacko jacko" too to make fun of the press and laugh at it though I know it hurt him.
