he did not reach to put his hands on the old man til after the old mans hands were on him,

and not only that he removed himself a couple of rows away and the 'lady' went after him while he stood there and tried to hit him..which allows him to defend himself.he did not hit her he pushed at her to get her away, which sent the rest of the 'heros' to the rescue..

I'm a total advocate for respecting our elders, and I wish this hadn't happened, but I think the older folk might be in the wrong all the way around here.

If the incident started at the very moment the video kicks in -- with young loudmouth going off -- there still would be no grounds for the older dude to rush him. You can't do that just because someone says something offensive. There was no impending threat: The younger guy not only had just sat down, fully allowing the older couple to walk away, but he'd picked up a beer and was taking a sip when he was rushed. He had every right to parry the not one, but two attacks on himself, which he did incidentally without throwing a single blow as far as I can tell.

As it were, though, one of the guys videotaping makes the comment early on that, "She has no right to hit him. It's ridiculous!" That makes me think the lady very possibly had struck the younger guy even before the footage we see. If that's true, perhaps there's good reason he was pissed off and cursing up a storm. I'd like to think I'm above it, but if some stranger felt free to be hitting me, I might get indignant as well.

I didn't watch the vids, just chiming in to say I'm with JohnArt -- just 'cause you're old does not guarantee you deserve respect, especially if you're an asshole. Here in NYC, old people do all sorts of rude shit, I guess they think they should get away with it because they're old. Too bad I will speak up, no matter how old they are. I've had gereatrics cut LONG lines at the pharmacy, bus stop, etc. and talk down to me; and when I've stood up for myself they've called me names. How is that respectful to me and why should that behavior garner my respect? No way.

This video actually made me angry. The dude takes the hit like a man, DOES NOT retaliate (oh he says a curse word...how evil. Who wouldn't after getting slapped?) and apparently is threatened with another slap when he says he could take 20 of those. He sits down and gets attacked again and everyone is saying "Get him out of here!" toward the young guy...all because some old assholes decided they wanted to have a professional wrestling match in the nosebleeds.

From what i read in the papers. The young guy was cursing up a storm (he kept dropping the F bomb) and the lady was offended by his language and told him so... they got in to a argument and she slapped him...

this is not an issue of respect

and who deserves it or not
