Searching for a red wig. Planning on being Jessica from True Blood for Halloween. Anyhow, the only ones I am finding on Ebay ship from Hong Kong or China.

Anyone have experience w/ this? Is this a smooth transaction or could it possibly take forever to recieve??

Or, do you know of a site to buy a cheap wig?

I've bought several items from Hong Kong and Singapore through Ebay, and they've always been very smooth transactions. The shipping has been fast, and I've experienced no problems.

I am from Finland though, not the States.

From the States? It takes 14 days on average minus or plus a couple of days. I just bought a microphone from Hong Kong on the 4th of this month, I guess it should be here by weeks end.

Many people on E-Bay seem to be very suspicous of international transactions. Buyers are worried about shipping times and sellers rarely allow worldwide bidders. Especially in the case of sellers I think it's really silly because it's not any harder to write an international address on the package than it is to write a domestic one. And the more bidders you get, the higher the selling price gets - so what do they have to lose? It's either just laziness (not wanting to call the post office and check the international rates) or in other cases plain old xenophobia.

Depends on what you're buying how long it will take to ship to the states. I've bought clothing and electronics. Both took on averge about 10-14 days. Some sellers offer faster shipping, but you will have to pay extra. I tend to avoid buying anything from Canada. Their Customs is a bitch! I bought something from a Canadian and it literally took 35 days to get to me.

Hang on a minute. I agree that Canada customs is a bitch (I've had lots of problems with them in the past) but it's not their fault that a package you order from Canada gets delayed on its way to the US. If any customs authority is responsible for that, it's the US customs (since it's always the country to which the goods are sent that process them through customs). Another possibility is that the seller was slow to dispatch the item, which might be the more likely scenario.

Best to check the seller's feedback, too. That will give you a good indication of how happy or not folks are with his merchandise and shipping.

Ebay sellers not willing to sell internationally may not always be laziness or xenophobia. There are very legitimate reasons like losing your money. I don't think the casual Ebay shopper has the slightest idea what seller's are put through. Let's start with the shipping fee limits Ebay imposes upon its sellers. In many instances this doesn't even cover the actual cost of postage. Then there is the mandatory acceptance of Paypal (which Ebay purchased about a decade ago) as the only allowed form of payment for most items sold on Ebay. With Paypal comes a number of potential headaches for sellers. First, sellers are required to prove the item was delivered. If the seller does not purchase online tracking for shipped goods all a buyer has to do is tell Ebay they didn't receive their merchandise and the buyer's money will be automatically refunded; instantaniously debited from the seller's Paypal or bank account. For an American seller, international tracking costs almost $30. That's a lot of money to have to spend in order to protect oneself from a buyer who files a false claim of non-receipt. And recently Paypal have started placing 21-day holds on transactions they deem "risky". During this 21-day period the seller is expected the ship the merchandise without receiving a penny. Paypal may release the money to the seller no sooner than 3 days after delivery confirmation or once the buyer posts positive feedback for the seller on Ebay. Ebay have created quite a hostile environment for sellers. I'm surprised Ebay still dosen't have any real competitors.

I know lots of people who sell internationally and they don't seem to have any problems. One used to only ship domestically but has now opened it up to international bidders too (he doesn't pay for tracking and the actual shipping cost has never been higher than any E-Bay limits) and he says that the auctions nearly always end with a higher price than usual, which would most likely offset any negative effects, had there been any.
