Private lessons...
I loved my drama teacher because he was constantly encouraging us to be creative and expressive. He was so gifted at bringing out the best in all of his students. Some of the older kids told us he was "funny", This was the early seventies and there were no such words as gay or homophobia so we didn't know what they were talking about...we just loved him.
He gave me my first astrology book and was my first astrology teacher...I stayed in touch with him till I got married and moved away. Prince, in you I found a kindred spirit...Rest In Paradise.

This thread is bring back some memories.
I hated PE too. I was not very coordinated or strong. I could never do a pull up and I remember the other kids laughing and the teacher yelling at me.
I loved Drama & Art class.

My fav subject was probably government and history. My least fav was math.

Dance was a PE elective at my high school. You had to take regular gym freshman and sophomore years, but junior and senior year, you could choose from a bunch of other, funner PE electives. I took advanced aquatics my junior year. (I was a competitive swimmer as a kid, so I loved this. Plus, I earned my advanced lifesaving certificate.) And I had dance my senior year.
My most hated moment in PE from sixth grade on was that hideous 12-minute run everyone had to do. I am so not a runner and always felt terrible because I did so badly on that test.
Years later, I realized that there were a ton of kids who cheated when reporting their laps. In high school, we did the run on a quarter-mile track and there were kids reporting that they did...like...8 laps in 12 minutes. So...they were running six-minute miles? In high school? Really? We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

I actually got an F in PE I hated that damn class. I always pretended I was sick. I'm terrible at sports but the teacher made us but when people would pick teams, they'd never pick me so I always played anyway "We may deify or demonize them but not ignore them. And we call them genius, because they are the people who change the world."

I hated Math with a passion. I still do. I just want to burn it and throw away the ashes. I enjoyed History, Art, and English class. Gym was okay once I got into high school. Even though I sucked at sports and tried to weasel my way into sitting down a lot, I did sort of have a good time with volleyball. I could not stand any of my science classes for the simple facts that I....A) wasn't interested in boiling salt crystals in water B) Didn't want to "examine" the bugs and pigs that the honor students already examined. I was SO mad at that because we were the "regular" students, too stupid to do it ourselves I guess! and...C)I didn't give a flying fig about chemical properties.
I just wanted to write poetry and go to my theater electives. There were a lot of cute little Freshmen girls who were just absolute tarts. It was a bit of a naughty treat checking them out. Shy ol' me, I never acted on it 'cause I went to an all-girl school that had a veeeery judgmental scene going on. So all the Lesbian and Bi ladies kept it very low-key.
Meh. Memories!! [Edited 9/4/10 12:54pm]

I wonder why they can't seem to make social studies interesting? In theory it should have a universal appeal.

My favorite subject was, Drafting-mechanical drawing classes (not to sound racist but I was the best in my class... even better than the Asian dudes and they hated that)
I was also good at anything else I applied myself at... never did any homework, because I couldn't be bothered, and only did so to preserve the grade at the end of every year. I did pay attention in class and aced every test I took. Scored highest on the SATs in my class (which wasn't that high).
I never took art, theater, music classes.... they were never available in my school, but I did love the woodworking, & metal, classes I took.
I found English, Calculus, History to be boring but I loved Physics, Science, Sociolgy, French and Phys ed.

in HS, we had gym separate from the boys.. there were about 1,000 students per grade, 9th-12th, so girls had PE in the gym on the 8th floor, boys had their own gym on the 3rd. -- the pool was in the basement level.. I don't think we had co-ed swimming either.. in order for the school to keep the Swim Team, every student has to take a swim test to make sure they won't drown should they end up in the pool for any reason; if you fail, you have to take swimming class instead of regular gym. The screwed up thing, our school got the least amount of State funding....but guess which school Arnold visited when he came to the area? Yep, the school with the 17 year old El Savadorian who sung like a professional opera singer "We may deify or demonize them but not ignore them. And we call them genius, because they are the people who change the world."

I remember I took this one class called "Developing Areas". It was all about the third world, its economic conditions etc. I thought the topic would be really interesting. I have never had a more boring teacher in my entire life. She was unbelievably boring. She just droned.
