How can you name a fierce hurricane Earl? It sounds like somebody's kind old uncle. You want people to take it seriously and get out of the way, not prepare coffee and cookies for it.

There's a whole wealth of heavy metal band names you could use. "This year Megadeth and Slayer devastated hundreds of houses and flooded half the state". Much more appropriate. nod

lol

One of the most destrictive hurricanes to have hit Honduras was hurricane "Fifi" back in the '80s.

Come on now...don't you just picture the hurricane clouds shaped like a French Poodle?

Possibly in the path, live 2 blocks from the water. I'm not worried. I love a good storm. So long as no trees fall on my car I'm good smile

My area is under a Tropical Storm Warning.

I went to Target @ lunchtime and they were already OUT of bottled water.

You want to talk "fragile"?...there are barrier islands off the south shore of Long Island that're but a category 3 or 4 from being blown away for GOOD!

Not a serial killer, but James Earl Ray did assassinate MLK, Jr.

Edit: Oh and thanks Earl for fucking up my plan to visit Boston this weekend.

Maybe I underreact?? But that's always funny to me. Did they have toilet paper? It's like really.....how long do you think you will be w/out water??

I've never gone out and stocked up on bottled water or toilet paper.

However...just in case this was a big one, I figured it couldn't hurt to have some bottled water and canned food in the house. Nothing major, just a couple of cans of soup, Chef-Boyardee and tuna. Besides the gallons of no-frills water...there were three 24-packs of Dasani left. No Poland Spring.

What I really fear is having to evacuate. See...in case a REALLY big storm heads our way, we will NOT be stocking up on ANYTHING! We'd head for the hills.

And being as how rush-hour traffic on Long Island is notoriously (and painfully) slow...I can't even IMAGINE what "evacuation" traffic would be like!

Right! I agree w/ your "stock up" methods and gas, you should have a full tank of gas.

wink Stay safe!

Supposed to hit us tonight but was downgraded to a tropical storm in my area. Cape Cod is supposedly going to be hit. Hope Daddy's boat doesn't get destroyed!

Category 2 now.

We still don't have any rain, but it's gotten really overcast & dark clouds are moving in.

Hopefully it stays far, far off the coast! pray

Still waiting for the fury of Earl in Manhattan. No rain, it's not even that overcast.

The media over-exaggerates everything these days. "The sky is falling, the sky is falling!"

The check. The string he dropped. The Mona Lisa. The musical notes taken out of a hat. The glass. The toy shotgun painting. The things he found. Therefore, everything seen–every object, that is, plus the process of looking at it–is a Duchamp.

Yeah...it was a dud for us as well (thankfully!).

We barely got any rain out of it (def still need to water my lawn tomorrow).

Jone, u have to remember that Mother Nature (in spite of all our fancy instruments and expensive satellites) is still very unpredictable. The weather is pretty much "news as it happens" and they can just tell us; "Hey! Big storm on the way that could possibly smack right into you!" to prepare us. I would rather be aware and overreact (maybe I didn't need to buy all those cans of tuna???) then to be caught unawares and wind up having to swim my way to dry land.

So the Metropolitan area was spared yet again. Made for a pretty sunset though, didn't it?
