Nope, no Mesrine yet. I guess it doesn't really matter if I get to see it on the big screen because I'll be buying them on DVD.

They've been on DVD for over a year and a half now...

Weird that this was picked up in the US just this year (was released in Europe in 2008) this was on my list of one of the best movies of 2008...

Ya, it's still in theaters here so the states won't see a region 1 DVD for awhile.

Last night I went to an advance screening of the movie Another Year at the NY Film Festival. Afterward was a Q&A session with director Mike Leigh (Happy-Go-Lucky, Vera Drake, Secrets & Lies, Naked) and a few cast members.

finally saw this one

atmospheric but lacking in substance

saw the ending coming from 1/4 way through

films that leave you asking questions are good, this isn't really one of them.

I'm surprised it only had an M rating, to me there is one strong scene that should be for 18+

quite gruesome.

I was too scared with all the hardcore film nerds in the audience. boxed

I was tempted after when everyone was mingling in the lobby to tell the director that Happy-Go-Lucky was my favorite movie of that year, but decided to leave the old guy alone. lol

I watched Robin Wiliams' Weapons of Self-Destruction tonight. Not technically a movie, but a feature-length standup performance. Unfortunately I have to say I'm a bit disappointed (though mostly because his previous standup dvd was so awesome). He moved a bit too fast to new subjects which made the jokes seem artificial rather than integrated parts of an amusing story. Also, some of the jokes were actually very conventional and could even have been stolen from other sources, because I could either see them coming or got a deja vu feeling after I'd heard them. Still, it was an entertaining hour and a half.

"Repo Men" and I thought it sucked.

It just struck me that aside from "Star Wars" and "Total Recall" or that type movie, I think I've not cared for any movie set in the future. Mainly because the future always looks bleak.

The Night Porter (1974) sadistic as can be but I still enjoyed it nevertheless. it's always a pleasure watching Charlotte Rampling perform. Dirk Bogarde was definitely a plus too.

Harry, un ami qui vous veut du bien (2000) a great, twisted dark comedy thriller with the humor being too buried you don't even know where to laugh & where to feel sorry for the characters lol

CQ (2001) a 1970s inspired project from Roman Coppola. the plot could've definitely been better, but with a fabulous 70s setting, stellar visuals & Angela Lindvall kicking ass who'd notice a plot?

"what's that book where they're all behind the wardrobe?"

I used to own this movie. One minor thing that annoys me in films like these set in foreign countries is when all the natives are speaking to each other in English. That's not right.
