The Night Porter (1974) sadistic as can be but I still enjoyed it nevertheless. it's always a pleasure watching Charlotte Rampling perform. Dirk Bogarde was definitely a plus too.

I used to own this movie. One minor thing that annoys me in films like these set in foreign countries is when all the natives are speaking to each other in English. That's not right.

I agree, I didn't even know it was going to be in English, for a moment I thought my copy was dubbed!

Your high rating for Psycho encouraged me to check it out. I've always been skeptical about it thinking it'd be a cheesefest (even though I love Hitchcock's work? confuse)

I've also watched:

A Woman Under the Influence (1974): a troubled marriage between a caring husband and an unpredictable, mentally unstable wife whose behaviour while sane is just as peculiar as when she gets out of control. It's a long film and it can be depressing at times, but it's really good. also, Gena Rowlands losing the Oscar for this made me want to check out Ellen Burstyn on Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore.

and two films produced by HBO this year:

Temple Grandin: based on the early life of the genius autistic scientist. a great story with an exceptional performance from Claire Danes. really enjoyed watching this.

The Special Relationship: goes behind doors on Tony Blair's relationship with his supporter then, Clinton, and how the latter's sex scandal could've threatened the relationship between the two countries. entertaining film, although I wasn't so covinced with Quaid as Clinton (felt very SNL-ish at times), as opposed to Hope Davis who was Hillary it was ridiculous!

"what's that book where they're all behind the wardrobe?"
