Are they fruit bats or the rabies infested type that bite donkeys?

If they are fruit bats then just build a bat house and lure them with their favorite fruit to their new home.

If they carry rabies, then bludgeon them to death with a hammer and tell no one. shhh

I am pretty sure they are the ones that carry rabies. As far as I know they are vampire bats. It's a house in Trinidad in the tropical rain forest.

lol I don't think the ones in our house carry rabies though. And living in a big city with all the cars and pollution is probably much more dangerous than living in the rain forest.

Look. You cannot sleep on a bed that bats have been shitting on. Period. There's lot of stuff in droppings from animals of any kind that you do not want to get on you - or breathe into your lungs by flinging bedding around.

There just shouldn't be any question about that, at all.

As I cannot sleep in the other bed because there is too much breeze there I have to sleep in that bed. So I willprobably put up a mosquito net as a protection against bats. My pharmacist also came up with that idea today so that I can be sure that no bat with rabies could bite me during the night.

That's not what I'm talking about. Bat guano can contain histoplasmosis spores. You don't have to get anywhere near the bats for them to make you sick. Just fling back the covers, inhale a few of the spores you just flung into the air, and you can end up with a nasty fungal infection in your lungs.

Doesn't that sound like fun?

Yep. Take her warning seriously. It's true. (Even Bob Dylan got this infection a few years ago.)

You need to be around large quantities of guano to be at risk. So, it's not like you fling some off the covers and get sick.

http://www.getbatsout.com...smosis.htm

"Scattered bat droppings (guano) do not pose a risk and can be safely swept up or vacuumed"

The bottom line is this, if you're not willing or able to fix where they are coming in, you're not willing to sleep in another bed, not willing to take any of the advice given in this thread and you're not taking the time to properly educate yourself about risks and myths of diseases they may carry and just being an alarmist about it all...well, you're shit out of luck, I'm afraid.

Good luck, I hope it all works out.

Shotgun. Should do the trick.

But be forewarned, my expertise is in the area of scientific frog removal, not scientific bat removal.

:sig: But what can I do to avoid that? I will put up a mosquito net and I will try to put some plastic bags or whatever on the ceiling on the place where they live to hopefully make it uncomfortable for them there. But I don't know what else I can really do in my situation cry.

So I hope the quantities are not big enough. I guess wehn the palce is cleaned up regulary the risk shoud not be big hopefuly.

Did I understand that right that it is better to clean up with water so that the spores cannot get into the air? That article is kinda hard for me to understand as English is not my first language and I didn't find much information in German.

I am trying to take advice and I am gonna use a mosquito net. And put somthing on that ceiling to ake it uncomfortable for them to live there.

The last time there were fewer bats and I slept in the other part of the room where they hardly went to.

Guano is toxic. Does the bdrm not have a door? Spend a day going all the way around the room up and down sealing every nook and cranny in the room (caulking/mortar) then just keep the door shut. Borrow a cat ...and the sonic signal does seem to work.

It's not the bed that is causing the pain but the window next to the bed wink.

It's impossible to seal the house.

grouphug Thanks so much everybody. David assured me that the bat are fruit bats and not vampire bats. I talked to a doctor of a tropical instite for hours and finally decided to not get vaccinated against rabies even though he advised me to do that as there isn't enough time left to finish that in Austria and it seems pretty much impossible to get the last vaccination done overthere.

I will get a mosquito net, maybe build a bird house outside to attract them to that place, block the wooden parts on the ceiling where they stay with plastic and maybe follow some otehr advice I got from somebody who is living in Trinidad who I talked to.

IMO those do not look like fruit bats....AND they are hanging over your bed? eek I hope you sleep with your mouth closed.

Your talking about skipping lifesaving vaccinations and going to the middle of nowhere with few amneties (which also leads me to believe that the availability of adequate medical care is highly unlikely) for dick?

"Bats can transmit various diseases to humans, such as arbovirus diseases (Tamsitt & Valdivieso, 1970), histoplasmosis and trypanosomiasis (Constantine, 1988), leptospirosis, rickettsiosis, and cryptococcosis (Tamsitt & Valdivieso, 1970), and brucellosis, salmonellosis, and candidiasis (Constantine, 1988). However, the most serious disease that can be transmitted by bats is rabies. This disease has caused numerous deaths in Latin America over the last several decades, where the bat has been identified as the second most important animal species in the transmission of rabies to humans (INPPAZ, 1997). "

http://www.scielosp.org/s...ci_arttext

Perhaps the bats in the house are not rabid, but believe me, they are feeding on something or somebody nearby. David could be a food source and not know.

Bats are nothing to play with and you certainly shouldn't be living with them. Rabies is still being transmitted to humans and in varous parts of South America and bat attacks are on the rise because their other food sources are diminishing. By the way....rabies has a nearly 100% mortality rate. If a bat bites, since you dont feel it, you have no idea until the symptoms kick in and by then it's too late.

Going to church doesn’t make you a Christian, any more than standing in a garage makes you a car.
