You are way better than I because there is no way in HELL that I would ever stay in a house that has bats flying/hanging in the living quarters! I've been shitting in my pants for the past 2 years because the North American little brown bat that lives in my attic and occasionally wakes up early out of hibernation only to somehow end up in my living quarters, mainly my master bedroom. I did a professional bat exclusion last November so hopefully that did the trick. Probably won't find out until we have an uncharacteristically warm fall/winter night. Please cross your fingers for me!

sandpaper the wall and ceiling to a high gloss and smear with vaseline, once they realise they can't attach themselves they will find somewhere else to roost. They sleep there in the day don't they? Annoy them all day with sounds and vibrations - loud music, hammering, powertools, etc so they can't sleep lol

I didn't look this up or anything, I just made that up boxed

I'm still traumatized for you. lol

Would putting bat houses around the property help any?

I swear If there's no way to keep them out I think I'd have to drop a giant mosquito net over the entire house. faint

comfort lol

From what I learned on this thread they only work for fruit bats and not for vampire bats. OMG how I hate that word alone mad .

That would be a huge mosqutio net falloff.

I don't care. I would have the "crazy mostquito net house" in the neighborhood/rain forest. lol

I would not share quarters with bats. I just plain couldn't.

Since there is no way to keep them out of the house, this is all she needs.

Cheap and effective.

how well does it wash? because the bat poop would land on it and dry, and crumble through eventually if not washed daily (which in Martina's case has to be by hand - no electricity)

Hahaha. I don't think guano will be an issue, but hand washing and air drying works fine.

I mean, they use it in 3rd world countries where, you know...Kenmore isn't sold.

It's a household appliance brand by Sears.

And no, she will not need to wash daily.

I guess I will go for that. Even though David told me it's way to warm and he cannot sleep underneath it as he is claustrophobic. But I don' care, he will get used to that somehow. I am just not sure if we will buy one there or if I will take one with me that I have here and never ever used hmmm. Maybe I am just gonna take the net with me without the ring because that one might be too big for my suitcase. I think it must be possible that he can build someting else but that ring to hang it up hmmm. That net is black though (matching my black bed here at home) and nothing in his house is black pout.

David tried to annoy them with light, but it doesn't work. They are usually there during the day too, yeah. I was thinking about a way to make that spot up there uncomfortable for them. hmmm

I think a bed net would be a good idea, won't there be lots of insects there too?

In the above pics, it looks like the bats are hanging onto something on the ceiling, what is it? Can it be removed? As far as I understand it, they cannot cling onto a smooth ceiling, so if whatever it is can be removed then they will have to find somewhere else to roost. If it cannot be removed, maybe pin a length of material on it or over it so they can't get to it.

Mosquito nets are not too warm for tropical environments. I lived in Miami for years where the temperature was 33+° on average, and a mosquito net became my best friend for keeping flying critters away at night nod Also, the white ones are pretty much see-through ,so you don't actually feel so closed in. Tell your boyfriend to suck it up and support you efforts to feel safe. I'm sure he'll come around to understanding that an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. coffee

There insect yes, but thank God in the night there are hardly any mosquitos whew.

That is part of the ceiling and cannot be removed as far as I remember. I will think if I can put something there that may hinder them from hanging there hmmm.
