Bats don't like fire. Would setting fire to your bedroom be a something you would consider?

If that's your only problem, you are in a much better position than I would be if I were in your situation. pat

I remember seeing (or thinking that I saw!) a bat when I thought I'd wait for a friend near her building. I rushed home in no time lol

Would a dog whistle scare them off? Scented candles? Lysol spray... they may hate that stuff.

I hope you have fruit bats because they will leave if you build them a new home... if not then they are what I call, disease carrying vermon. They need to die a horrble death.

I just read that dog repellent might work. I have no idea what that even is. Does anybody know if that is sold in a country like Trinidad and if so in what kind of shop? And if it is safe to use it inside the bedroom.

I am gonna ask David if he knows what kind of bats they are. So if they are fruit bats what exactly would we have to do to offer them a better home. I guess they really enjoy it where they are, I doubt they are willing to move elsewehere.

If they are fruit bats, then they would love a smaller house, like a bird house that's built on a pole. You would hang it in a fruit tree (like a fig or mango tree) and they will be peachy!

You may want to catch and release them there... I think that's how it works.

hmmm It would be hard to catch them, they are pretty shy. And I don't recall any fruit tree really close to the house. But thanks a lot for the advice hug.

Well, the good news is that the birthing season is over so now is the time to get rid of them. I think you'll need to get professionals to do it...but you MUST also animal proof your house so that they can not get back in.

Also, the animal removal guys must release them in your yard, not relocate them.

I don't know what the rabies rate in bats in that area is, but it's always very low. You want bats around, just not in your house.

Good luck.

I've been to a zoo ages ago, and I can't remember such rooms. Although I would probably stay far from them if I saw them boxed And I also think zoos are kinda wrong. But thats a whole different story.

Best of luck to you with that! hug

Thanks. Sadly it won't work to animal proof the house bawl. From what I heard the rabies rate there might be a litttle higher than usual, but they never attacked me and I don't think they will.

It's almost always less than 1%. Even so, you don't want them in your bedroom.

Unfortunately, if you can't at least find out how they are getting into the house proper and fix at least that, there is nothing you can do.

Oh, and bats with rabies don't attack, they are too out of it to really even function. Most people who are bitten are bitten because they were handling them, or....hate to say....rolled onto them in their bed. boxed

Not trying to scare you. I really think you don't need to worry.

I worked with bats when I worked at the wildlife centre, I actually think they are awesome.

I always thought they are vampire bats. I saw a TV program about bats which was shot very close to where David lives so it was likely they are the same species. I just read the German wiki and it says that people die from rabies if bitten by them which means that they really bite humans too omfg. And I just found out that it kills you for sure if you are infected omfg. And there is not enough time anymore to get a full vaccaniation against it before I travel there sigh.

whew But I'd still need to see a doctor if I'd got bitten, right? Would I notice if I was bitten at night?

bawl bawl They can get in everywhere easily.

Okay, I don't plan to touch them and I need to remind David to not do that in case he tries to get rid of them.

Could they fall down from the ceiling in the night when they have rabies omfg? And I could roll over them then in my sleep omfg?

Ok, first off, they do not feed on humans. Second, you do not automatically die from rabies. If you feel you were bitten you can be treated and no....it's not a series of shots in the stomach. If you are really scared, you can even be vacinated for rabies (I was when I worked with them).

We had infected bats come in now and then (since infected ones act like they are sick and are out of it, so people catch them), and I remember some dude even being bitten by one that tested positive. He did not die. lol

But honestly, people live with bats every day and do just fine. I would just attempt to find out where they are getting into your room and block it off.

If bats are flying around your room, acting normal...they do not have rabies.
