Spike Lee's "If God Is Willing And Da Creek Don't Rise" - Who Watched It?

This 2-parts documentary premiered recently in HBO 2 days ago, it picked up after his previous film on Katrina.

Bits of the documentary is included within the interview, since I couldn't find the trailer.

I watched Part One on the first night, but I fell asleep. I taped Part 2, but I haven't watched it yet. It's not as good as When the Levees Broke. I was glad to see my girl Montana back! Spike must be impressed with her, too. Maybe we'll see her in some of his future works.

Lammastide, I haven't watched it yet, I'm trying to get everyone's verdict though.

Wasn't she just great in Levees? Her sisters are in this series. You can see and hear the resemblance. They're funny, too. lol

Loved Montana on Treme. love

I watched the end of Part 2 and will watch the whole thing eventually. I love NOLA so it's really hard for me to watch anything dealing with BP right now. I gotta get my head right for the anger and anguish anytime I watch something on the devastation in NOLA. But the lil bit I saw looks like Spike outdid himself and did a great job at capturing people's outrage and hopeful spirit. That's what Nawlins and Louisiana is all about, laughter (and boisterous drunkenness) through tears. mushy

I didn't know Phyllis was on Teme. Damn, is it still on HBO or On Demand? I Just Googled her and found a plethora of stuff. I'll have to read through it when I have time.

Its a shame that there isn't much demand on Treme.

Another tragic aspect that may have hurt it, is the recent death of one of its acclaimed writers, Mr.David Mills(blogger Undercover Black Man) who was a Louisiana native.

Actually he was from the DC area. But that was SOOOO sad. I think he died on set. At least he died doing what he loved though. Very talented brutha. His work on The Corner was amazing. rose

Thanx girl. I thought he was from Louisiana doh! given how much trivia he posted about New Orleans music & theatre in his site, I thought he was from there.

Its a true loss to the blogosphere, I was a faithful follower of his site, I learned so much from him -(nice guy too - from the few conversations we exchanged).

He SURE did. He started doing scripts for Homicide: Life on the Streets, then he co-produced and wrote the Corner which was based on his book. Then the Wire and Treme. He also did that show Kingpin with Jimmy Smits that didn't get picked up. He's the same journalist that got those controversial interviews with Prof. Griff and Sister Soulja years ago when he worked at The Post if I recall correctly. The brutha was definitely talented.

nod Plus he definitely looked Creole. Dude was brilliant and loved his P-funk. He even wrote a book on Parliament.

LadyLuvSexxy

I watched it and could not stop crying at one point. I mean everything just came over me, even though I've never been, don't have family there....

I just sat there and cried listening to the powerful stories. Once they started talking about the BP issue, that was a wrap. I thought it was a very interesting, strong documentary. I wanted more. Which probably sounds off...(sorry if it does) but the stories of triumph and the voices speaking of their issues and anguishes made me feel like I was there. And I know I will NEVER be able to talk about all the things they've been through.

The spoken word segments really got to me. The one segment with the grandmother who lost just about everything REALLY got to me. She reminded me so much of my own sweet little Southern grandma. She even said something I know my own would say. (SPOILER BELOW...)

When she said "leave that spot on this, right here...", the waterworks came. She wanted a reminder of Katrina on a small little ceramic vase her son bought for her on a trip to Rome. She said she wanted it to be a reminder of what they came out of/rose above. Bless her heart, I just wanted to kiss her...

I think there's some parts I need to watch again. I was a tad busy at the time when the first part came on.

I've been able to see most of it, but I haven't seen the complete whole thing. The parts I did see were very interesting though.

I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

Just finished watching it, didn't get to see the entire program though.

Makes me want to storm the White House & demand they make things right.

I'm firmly planted in denial
