I liked the premise, but it didn't scare me at all and the end was totally LAME (again, for me).
I'm a tough customer when it comes to horror I guess.
Paranormal Activity (not one of my faves but ok and kind of well executed as well as in that "found footage" genre) was creepier than this movie IMO, if that says anything.
The lead guy is kinda cute and did a good job. The girl he's performing the exorcism on was kinda good and the redhead boy playing her brother was also good. The audience screamed and gasped a few times and I looked around goin "WHAT???"

You are indeed a tough customer with horror films based on what you've said here and on the Let The Right One In thread. And btw, I thought Paranormal Activity was very scary. I really liked that movie.
I'm now curious to know what was the most recent horror film that you thought was genuinely scary? Anything released in the last few years?
I guess I tend to speak harshly on movies. I did enjoy Paranormal. I just was not scared pre se, but I did find they handled the suspense very well and that alone made me consider it a successful film.
Of recent years? Here's some off the top of my head:
REC
The Eye (Japanese)
El Orfanato
Inside
High Tension
The Descent

for the most part the flim was fun, some edge of your seat moments but far away from the brilliance of the THE EXORCIST. The ending was raw but thrown together. Why on earth didnt they just LEAVE and NEVER COME BACK?!
Idda been so pissed if I was the woman. How many times did she ask to leave??
I thought the end was way too "Blair-Witch"-y but not nearly as successful as that.
I am not a fan of Blair Witch, but I thought the very end was very scary/creepy.
I also thought that they threw in a lot in like NO time and some of it was very cliche. |

I've seen those three and remember finding the latter two to be frightening. The version of The Descent I watched was with the original ending. The claustrophobic feel of that movie added a lot to it I think. |

I do think some folk will be scared or creeped out by Last Exorcism. It's all subjective anyway, this is why I still watch horror movies even if they've been trashed by critics or other people.
I definitely don't think this movie was trash but my over-critical self gets the better of me and I can see tons of things I wish had been done differently. There are some small moments here and there that work. And like I said, the premise is good.
I would've been fine to see it on dvd. Actually, I think I might have found it a bit scarier that way.

I haven't seen a number of the films you listed (but I'm going to check them out now..I love horror movie recommendations so thank you!) but have seen High Tension and I agree about it being a good one!
I read an article about that film that said so much blood was used in the making of High Tension that the cameras used were literally drenched, and when those cameras were used again later for another movie, they were leaking and dripping prop blood. |

It's not nearly as shaky as Blair Witch or Cloverfield. No one I was with seemed to have a problem. |

I think all these camcorder type movies work better when viewed at home than in a big theater. |

OK...saw this movie today...and I felt it was awful! It had good parts but I expected more. Oh well...I guess they just don't make scary movies like they use to. Proud Memaw to Seyhan Olivia Christine ,Zoey Cirilo Jaylee & Ellie Abigail Lillian |

Not heard of it, but I saw Lars Von Triers Antichrist the other day and it's one of the creepiest films I've seen in a while. |

Me either. WAAAAYY overrated.
I thought Cécile De France was crazy hot in that film, though. Ὅσον ζῇς φαίνου

I absolutely loved all that took place within the house (what was that, like the first 3/4 maybe?) It was a great throwback to the old slasher horrors. |

I thought that movie was awesome! And I'm not really a big horror fan. My brother claims he saw that ending coming right away, but I was totally surprised If you will, so will I |

I spoiled it for myself. I did something I almost never do: I went and read about the ending.
Sounds terrible.

I couldn't resist. People seem to be having very strong reactions to the ending.
And everyone seems to hate the movie, so I figured I would probably skip it.
