I need a new bed

The one I have is ten years old and hasn't been comfortable since five years ago or so.

I hate shopping for a bed. They're crazy expensive and (given this latest experience), I'm just paralyzed by the fact that I might make another bad purchase.

Any tips?

I almost forgot...

Shut up, johnart and Dan! mad

What did you do to the old one to break it down?

I think it just wasn't very good to begin with. shrug

When I was in college, I actually did break a bed, though. With four other people. [img:$uid]http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g216/rebecca8273/emoticon/eusa_shifty.gif[/img:$uid]

Before this thread turns into all about how you and 4 other people broke your college bed eek

I suggest getting a nice, thick & sturdy bed. Something that cant crack. I want my next to be made out of steel.

Beds from Rooms to Go break very easily...I know this for sure

Duh. lol

The problem is trying to guess what any bed is going to feel like five years down the road. I thought the one I have was perfect when I bought it, but was quickly proven wrong.

I've been sleeping on my mistake for at least five of the last ten years.

True story. My best friend growing up was a HUGE Prince fan. I climbed onto the headboard of his antique bed and did a swan dive onto the mattress, imitating a Prince floor-humping scene. Broke the shit outta that antique bed........busted the frame to toothpicks.

BUT, if you could afford one, I would recommend the tempurpedic mattresses.

My brother has a theory that you should splurge on the very best bed you can. His theory is that if you have the most comfortable bed you can possibly find, you can say to yourself that Donald Trump [or insert rich person of your choice] could not possibly be more comfortable than you when he goes to sleep. shrug It's a theory that works well for him.

I've always wanted to get one of those W beds myself.

That's actually really close to what happened to the bed we broke. Minus the humping.

We were sitting on the bed of a friend of mine...in a sorority house after a formal...listening to some music (Springsteen, I think). It was the top bunk, so we were kind of swinging our feet in time to the music.

All of a sudden...crrrrrraaaack! We broke about three slats. redface

She wasn't home at the time - and was sssooooooo pissed. lol

I don't think anyone can give advice here, you just need to find something you like.

well...I might advise spending as much as you can, this is an important purchase.

Oh wow. That is something I DEFINITELY would not have expected from you! lol A good comfortable bed can change your whole WAKING life. lol

Do you have Sleep Trains there? Or, ya know, one of those giant bed showroom stores. Nothing but different makes and models of beds lined up all around the store? Go to one and lay down on a lot of them for a good ten to fifteen minutes. Don't make your decision that day, or even the second or third day. When you do pick one make sure it's got a good long return policy (Sleep Train offers 100 days).

Right now I have a Simmons Beautyrest Black, Luxury Collection, Plush Pillowtop, Sonya model. You can do a zip search on the site below...

http://www.beautyrestblack.com/collection.html

Helps that one of my really close friends is a Sleep Train manager, so I got what could only be described as an unbelievable deal. But man do I love this thing! My old queen size was just a regular, dark ages mattress. Nothing special about it at all. This new one is tall and SOLID construction wise, so it looks freakin' cool. It's firm AND soft at the same time as far as sleeping goes. The pillow top does actually feel like you're sinking into your bed, but the mattress underneath is really quite firm and solid, which is what I like.

Anyway, definitely take your time and try out a lot of mattresses in showrooms. But don't skimp if you can afford not to. You definitely won't be sorry.
