American Airlines rolls out fee for coach seats

The airline is charging a fee for seats in the first few rows of coach, including the bulkhead seats.

(CNN) -- For a price, American Airlines passengers can sit at the front of coach class and be among the first coach ticket holders to board.

On Wednesday, the airline announced Express Seats, an option that attaches a premium, starting at $19 per flight, to certain coach seats.

It's too bad in a way if all the airlines start doing this because I'm usually quick as lightning and choose those seats before anybody else, for free. On the other hand I'm occasionally not quick enough and then the fee would have been good as a deterrent for the competition. I'm more than willing to pay a bit extra for those phenomenal seats. There's often just as much leg room as in business class but for a fraction of the price.

So as you can tell I'm viewing this issue from a selfish standpoint, lol.

They're quickly turning into my least favorite airline for many reasons.

So? Nobody's making you sit there. Don't like it? Don't pay for it.

I never understood coach seating. Never understood the need to be seated first except to get dibs on the overhead cabins.

Oh well....Airlines gotta get paid too.

I flew KLM in June, I heard a hostie telling a guy that he couldn't sit in a bulkhead seat and when he challenged her saying why could THAT guy sit there then, she told him THAT guy had paid an extra 15 euros.

how tall are you?

Not a giant by any means. 6'5". 195.58 cm. But tall enough for the damn seats to be too close together otherwise.
