No one in my family ever had plastic on the couch. We weren't that Italian or Greek. We are English - we just didn't care.

I used to have a bunny (yes a rabbit, not a playboy model) that got to run around in my place. When she was little she used to LOVE jumping up on the couch to pee. When I was around I could snap my fingers and she'd jump down before she had time to do her business, but when I wasn't home I'd put a whole friggin tarp on the couch to protect it. Of course I could have put my bunny in her cage instead but I didn't have the heart to do that.

Yeah, well when you have bratty grandchildren who like to jump up and down on the couch until they get caught...and the plastic is starting to come off...then yeah some of that dirt will get on the couch. [Edited 8/14/10 19:43pm] I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

Not only does my mother keep the plastic on her couches and living room chairs, but also on lampshades. Ὅσον ζῇς φαίνου

isn't that going to fill the room with fumes each time lamps are on?

One would think! But I never recall any foul fumes from the lamps growing up... and luckily no fires. Now that I'm older, I actually remove the plastic from all her lamps when she's not around. She gets pissed, but the world still turns. Ὅσον ζῇς φαίνου

My mom used to do that way back in the day and your ass would burn up in the summertime sitting on that plastic. Don't laugh at my funk
