the last movie I saw was Eat Pray Love, but I can't say that I'd recommend that...

This week I have 2 days off work so I'm planning to see these

I'm sure they are all gonna be awesome, so I'll recommend them in advance smile

If you will, so will I

Yeah, almost every actor in that film turns me off. lol

When we were at the cinema to see Inception, we passed the poster for it, and of course it caught Leo's eye (seems to be a real MAN movie) and he noticed the cast were all photoshopped together. There is no way in hell they could get them all together in the same place at the same time just for a photo lol dead

While Inception had some intriguing ideas, it's still Hollywood formula with all that stupid beat-em-up crap while the clock is ticking down crap. Over and over the same formula over and over. I so rarely see blockbusters and every time I do I remember why. Same old same old over and over and over.

lol

To me, looking at that trailer, it's like Michael Clayton decided to become an assassin.

I heard only bad reviews about The Men Who Stare At Goats so I avoided it.

that movie was not funny enough to be funny, and not serious enough to be taken seriously

I was like neutral

The American is the movie my uncle told me about, he said to find out why George Clooney was up in his neck of the woods (Ă–stersund).

Well I must say The American trailer looks VERY interesting. I hope they pull off the romantic angle well because that could be a formulaic downer. We shall see.

I guess I'll put The Men Who Stare at Goats in my netflix queue some day. Just not any time soon.....

I created a thread about a month ago telling everyone how disappointed I was in this movie as well for some of the exact reasons you stated here. http://prince.org/msg/100/340448

I haven't reread the thread recently but I want to say I was in the vast minority of people that felt the same way you did. It wasn't the worst movie of all time by any stretch, but it definitely wasn't the mind blowing affair everyone made it out to be in my opinion.

Shutter Island star starstarstar A little unbelievable and a little predictable, but I thought it felt like a classic psychological thriller being retold using modern film techniques.

Where the Wild Things are starstar & 1/2 I can't say why, I just didn't really enjoy this one very much. I doesn't really seem like a kid's movie, and yet it seemed childlike. It strayed from the book, where it really should only have added to the book. Sad and dark, kind of sweet. Maybe if I was on mushrooms...

Inglorious Basterds starstar Seems QT wanted to do too many different things with this movie and did not succeed IMO. Decent performances and nice style, but making war films comedic is a bit iffy in my opinion. Plus the coolest character is an evil Nazi, and that is unforgiveable. The movie is redeemed somewhat for the "face in the smoke" scene.

The Science of Sleep starstarstarstar & 1/2 **disclaimer**though I am only halfway through, I am really enjoying this one.

He is always George Clooney, but I like him okay. He is somewhat emotionally believable. WAY better than his buddy Brad Pitt who always seems to be aware of the camera.

I haven't seen enough of his films to know what kind of range he has (if any), but when he does the cool super confident guy with issues like in the two movies I mentioned, I think he's great.

I actually really liked Inglourious Basterds. One of the extras on the disc is an interview with Tarantino and Pitt and they talked about how nervous they were attending the German premiere, but the audience there loved it and gave it a standing ovation.

I might not have fully formed my opinoin of the movie, but I thought it was strange that the American Pitt essentially played an idiot and the Nazi was super intelligent (if creepy). And the humor didn't really work for me.

But it did have that QT style, long, tense conversations--this time in French!! lol

I saw it tonight, and though I really enjoyed it was still left with some questions at the end that left me a little annoyed. The cliffhanger wasn't too bad though (maybe since I was expecting it) but there are a few things about the film I still need to mull over.

...Still recommend it though! biggrin

The Nazi officer was so intelligent he knew Germany would lose the war and wanted to switch sides.

The only time QT dialogue got on my nerves was in Death Proof. It was never-ending in that movie!

I will say though, once the chase actually started, it was better than anything in Planet Terror--if we are comparing the two Grindhouse movies, that is.

Harlepolis

Chameleon Street (1989) - Directed/Starring Wendell B. Harris. This is a true story about a con man who have developed(or "stolen") many personalities for personal gains. But there're many subliminal things that don't meet the eye once you get the chance to watch this classic. I've recommended this film before in orgville, and I still strongly recommend it. Be warned though, I don't think you'll like this upon a first watch.

Symbiopsychotaxiplasm: Take One (1968) - Directed by William Greaves. This man was mostly used as an extra actor and most of his leading role films ended up collecting dust in the vault(Probably because early Black cinema were indie & obscure during his heyday - back in the 30s/40s) so he shifted his career into directed news reels and TV documentaries. But he got a chance to line up an ensemble of a few theatre actors & actresses and some behind-the-scenes workers for a film with a very ambiguous storyline, needless to say, the movie wasn't finished, but he shot them during the development of the film without letting them know, some of them tried their best to make the project seem accessible, the others were visibly frustrated by the madness, coupled with the fact that he was purposely unavailable to them to see what they could work with. It sounds like a bunch of nonsense on paper, but if you like documentaries, you'll love this,,,,this is what "reality TV" tried to capture but couldn't pull the most crucial element about it; reality.

The Lair of the White Worm (1988) - Directed by Ken Russell/Starring Hugh Grant. If you can't stand Hugh Grant, campy movies revolt you, and you absolutely HATE the vampire-mania we're stuck with these days - like me, then this is the movie that will truly make you shift your angle altogether lol I don't think I've ever laughed out loud by watching a "vamp" flick, in fact I KNOW I haven't.

The Cockettes (2002) - I have to say, my primary reason for watching this was because of the Fabulous Sylvester, but I've enjoyed EVERYTHING about this movie. Another one for documentary lovers.

O.K. So I have a different slant with this next set of recommendations. I now have a new movie tha has entered my worst 3 of all time and I must share.

Someone recently posted a thread about what are the worst movies of all time. My contribution to that thread was Highlander 2 and Alone in the Dark. Both of which defy the boundaries of horribleness to the point that I actually must own them. The joy I get from soaking in their stupidity always leaves me with an ear to ear smile when I am done watching.

Well in an effort to see if I could add a new movie to this elite pantheon, I finally rented 2012 last night, (the John Cusack version of The Day After Tomorrow), and boy oh boy did it not disappoint. All of the cliche formulas behind the main family struggling to keep it together are there. There's the son who calls his dad by his first name instead of dad - oooh never heard that one before. There's Woody Harrelson's "crazy gov't conspiracy guy" character which is pure bliss. And of course, the main draw is all of the world falling apart stuff. All I can say is you simply owe it to yourself to put this movie in your Netflix queue or head down to you local rental store and pick this one up. I probably full out belly laughed 7 or 8 times durnig the movie.

From a "what in the holy hell were these guys thinking" category, this movie gets two fully enthhusiastic thumbs up.

thumbs up! thumbs up!

I love Tarantino and I actually thought the first 15 minutes of Inglorius was off the charts brilliant. Classic Tarantino dialogue with a tremendous emotional build up. It was like an extended Walken/Hopper True Romance scene, which I rank amongst my personal favorites. But the rest of the movie didn't really resonate with me. I'll definitely have to see it again some day, but I just remember it being SO over the top that I didn't feel very connected to it by the time it was over.

Hey my friend. I hear what you are saying, which is why I think a second viewing is definitely in order. Like Michael Clayton, sometimes a second viewing gives you a new found perspective. I just remember the first 15 mins being so spectacular and tense, and everything else being over the top.

that's what I think. I didn't really like it, but I would be willing to give it another chance because there were parts of it that I did like a lot, and it was obviously not totally empty style like Death Proof was.
