$5,000 donut

Tlak about sweet luck:

Krispy Kreme Patron Snags $5K With Snack

Manager Left Money In Box As Security Measure

A customer at a North Carolina Krispy Kreme got something even sweeter than a dozen hot glazed doughnuts: $5,000 in cash.

Police say a clerk at the store in Fayetteville accidentally handed over a box of doughnuts that also contained the store's cash receipts on Friday.

Luck? The money belongs to Krispy Kreme, not the customer.

If the customer keeps it, the customer is a thief.

That would not stand up in a court of law. This was handed 2 the customer freely. U are right, I would have given the $ back, but he/she was not obligated 2 do so. Possession is 9/10ths of the law.

Did the customer steal the money?

No, but it was a mistake. Mistakes happen.

I'm pretty sure the customer would not win in a court of law. Based on my experience in a couple similar instances involving car titles that were improperly released by a car dealer, the other side has to show that there was no way they could have known the mistake was, in fact, a mistake.

I can't figure out any scenario in which the customer could believably say, "I thought they were giving me the $5,000 on purpose".

If they find the customer.

Umm.... I've never had a Krispy Kreme donut. redface I'd totally do it if the box came with 5K in cash, though.
