Unless you have serious moisture issues (and it doesn't sound like you do), you don't need special paint.

That's only really necessary if your bathroom's prone to mildew.

whew.

There's no mildew.

in the spirit of this thread...it's probably a situation where you want to shower with the bathroom door OPEN!

flat paint looks nicer IMO, but I believe it is more porous so water & grease can penetrate more easily

this could be an issue esp on your bathroom & kitchen ceiling where steam collects or if you splash water anywhere

I have 11 foot plaster ceilings in my loft. And my kitchen backsplash is all stainless steel.

The bathroom has a much shorter ceiling, but it's all fine, I think. It's not totally flat, anyway.

whew. You guys were scaring me.

Stop it. lol

Carrie, both of my upstairs (ie, showering) bathrooms are still painted with the original builder paint (which is flat finish and total crap). I have never had mildew in either. When I get around to painting them, I will use an eggshell. But if I haven't had mildew in eight years, I kind of doubt I'm ever going to.

Don't worry about it.

Ok, but I have one more thing to say... biggrin

If you live somewhere where the humidity is low there usually isnt a problem with flat paint in the bath... But if you have high humidity... Its OVA! biggrin

I doubt it really matters, when you open the door after you finish, a huge cloud of steam will waft into the next room

Isn't the fan supposed to reduce that? confuse

Just air your place out after and worry about which porn star you'd most like to bang instead

yeah I guess, though I don't think most fans are good enough to get it all out with the doors closed

But I don't have a fan in my place so it's not an option

Now that I have my own bathroom, I want to do it with the door open, but that kinda creeps me out. I feel like someone is lurking around or something lol

If you will, so will I

I don't have a fan in my bathroom. I live alone, so I usually shower with the door open.

I keep it closed during winter so that getting out of the shower is not so shocking (I usually don't turn the heat on first thing in the morning)

I've been leaving it open during the winter, since our heating dries the air out so much we are all getting dried up mucus membranes in our sleep sad

It's cracked. I have my own full bathroom upstairs (as does my roommate - he has the master bedroom w/ a full bath). I leave the door cracked because Phoebe, one of the cats, likes to monitor everyone's showering. She sits on the tub between the shower curtain and the liner. She's insanely curious about the shower.

She also licks my legs dry. She's such a mother to everyone in the house.

If we have company, and I happen to be showering, I'll shut the door - but Phoebe usually claims her spot on the rug before hand.

My serious reply to this question is that it totally depends on if you have a window opening to the outside. I have serious problems combating mold in this apartment bathroom and the previous one because there are no windows. You have to clean continuously with mildew cleaners and clean the exhaust fan continuously. If the exhaust fan is clogged with dust, you are out of luck. If you have a window in your bathroom, it shouldn't make a difference which way the exhaust fan is pointed--if that is what you are referring to.
