Here In Christchurch things seems to be getting back on track, Eletric slowly coming back on. Water is off as of now, but hoping to back by tonight. The CBD is pretty bad, with the front of older buildings collapsed.

The quake it's self was extremly violent. Rating between 7.1-7.4 and only 10kms deep and lasting well over a minute long, it was a very strong quake.

The after shocks are coming think and fast, every 5mins or so, and still quite strong. Thank our lucky stars that we had no deaths.

We are still getting after shocks. There was alarge one 10 minutes ago.

Power is back on now, we have water for now but that may go out soon.

I have been in few earthquakes before, but that was by far the worst I have felt.

Has anyone heard anything from orger Huggybear?

Hope he´s okay, too.

Glad everyone is OK. Sounds like it was a pretty serious quake, actually. Lived through several large ones here in Cali - they're never fun.

No one killed is amazing, yes.

Timing has alot to do with it, it struck at 4.30 am when most were asleep in bed. most the damage is in the central city and if the quake had of struck any other time the death toll would be thousands.

Things are much worse here than i first realised. the first day we didnt really see the damage except in our immediate neighbour hood. But today it has really hit home how bad it is.

90 buildings in the central city will be demolished, and 800 homes. The demolition has already begun.

We have had over 100 aftershocks, some quite sevre. We had a large shake just as I started writing this post which sent us undercover.

We have almost restored power to most of the city, but water is still an issue. We have water stored in buckets and containers. All water has to be boiled for 3 minutes before use.

The mayor and govt authorities are doing an amzing job. The people have been outstanding and very calm. We have a lot of education about earthquakes here, and everyone was well prepared.

I think in a few weeks when we walk around the city and see all those empty places where buildings used to stand will be very upsetting.

Sorry for grammer and spelling, quite upsetting to try and write about what it is like here.

yeah we get plenty of earthquakes here but this was certainly one out of the box

the damage is random too, one place is f***ed the nxt hardly a scratch

amazing no one killed, it really is

had it been at 4 in the afternoon....

I live at the beach here in Chch and there was the obligatory tsunami panic

thousands left over the one bridge out, which with daylight was immeaditly shut due to it's imminent collapse.

crikey.

sad

I can only imagine on a small scale what it must be like. I remember going outside after Hurricane Hugo hit South Carolina and seeing all the buildings destroyed and 100 year old oak trees uprooted. Yachts and boats sitting in the top of trees. Only when you see it all afterwards do you realize how lucky you are and it hits you and overwhelms you. I'm so glad everyone survived and hope the aftershocks are over. hug
