I think you'll find that Mauna Kea (not sure of the spelling) somewhere in Hawaii IS the world's tallest mountain. It's approx 33,000ft from base to summit (Everest is only 29,000ft approx). Most of it is under the ocean, however. But the record still stands.

Mauna Kea is officially the World's highest mountain.

ok so above sea level mount everest in 1996 was 29,028 feet

last year there was another measure ...
